You can't be great with Google then,

Image Search: coral polyp cross section

I mean actual photos, not diagrams and drawn pictures.

Do you mean like a dissection?

Yes like a dissection.

Hmm... Interesting request.

I don't think it would be that interesting for most SPS and LPS. SPS is too small and LPS is sort of just a membrane filled with fluid. There's so much contraction and expansion that it would probably just look like goo.

As for soft corals - I'm not sure. Again I think a lot of them would just look like goo - you wouldn't get a nice "slice" that looks like a drawing or something. Note that I haven't tried it but it just seems like trying to get a cross section would be a mess.

Agreed it would need some sort of structure and to be large enough. Pictures tell the story no?

It would be cool if someone were to dunk some soft corals in liquid nitrogen so you could make that cross section cut and see what it looks like!

A while ago I visited this exhibition: www.nhm.ac.uk/visit/exhibitions/coral-reefs-secret-cities-of-the-sea-exhibition.html

On display were a number of hard corals cross sections, like you're after. The exhibition has closed now but they have some videos and pictures on the website. I've only flicked through but it looks like this one may have some glimpses for you (eg around 1:23): www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/corals-up-close-and-personal.html

I'd click around the videos there.

Thanks,

Matt

I was just curious thats all. Just thought it to be interesting to see where the feeders go and polyps are stored. Maybe see some food being stored and where it is stored processed.

Hmmm interesting subject. I currently have some montipora that has begun to plate against the glass and show some interesting cross sections. I would continue to experiment and see what you can come up with.
