stocking a NUVO fusion 40g

I'm buying a 40g. Trying to make a stocking plan. I had thought about a peaceful tank with: 1 or 2 clown fish, a yellow clown goby, purple fire fish, a banggai cardinal, and 2 blue green chromis. But now I'm leaning more toward a more active tank with: 1 or 2 clown fish, a midas blenny, six line wrasse, and 1 or 2 of the following 3 choices (depending on whether I decide on 1 or 2 clowns) a royal gramma, an orchid dottyback, and/or a blue devil (or orange tail) damsel. What does everybody think of my new plan? And would you do 1 clown and 2 of the last 3, or 2 clowns and only of the 3 and, if so, which of the last 3 would you choose? I realize that most of the list are semi-aggressive and are similar in size and body shape. I'm just hoping if they are different in color, they won't fight.

I can't really speak to most of your fish choices, but I will tell you what I have in my fusion 40, and my experiences.

Current stock is:

(2) A. ocellaris clowns

(1) citron clown goby

(1) yellowfin flasher wrasse

(1) eyebrow barnacle blenny (E. myersi)

(1) Panamic barnacle blenny (A. hancocki)

At one time I had a Naoko's fairy wrasse which was added at the same time as the flasher wrasse. The flasher wrasse was very aggressive, and looking back I think it is probably due to tank size/layout. The flasher does very well alone, but was not having a "competitor" in his space. He was also pushy toward the clowns and goby, but not to the point of nearly killing them like he did the fairy wrasse.

Now that the clowns are a little older and bigger they (especially the one turning female) don't get pushed around anymore. In fact they have started to keep the flasher in his place. The clown goby was never really bothered by the wrasses' displays and pretty much just goes about his business.

As mentioned before, the clowns are now starting to get territorial. They have their corner in the back right of the tank and pretty much defend that whole area. This caused big problems with a second eyebrow barnacle blenny that had to get rehomed to my 6 gallon. He was spending a lot of time in the open in their area and they were picking at him pretty bad. Chewed his whole tail off. The other eyebrow, which is still in the 40, stays in a hole most of the time, but if he gets into their corner they go after him too.

The Panamic barnacle blenny rarely leaves his barnacle other than to dart out for food, so he is not bothered by anyone.

All of them have settled in now except when the eyebrow BB strays and no one is getting heavily picked on, but even with all of my so called "peaceful" fish it has been touchy at times. The yellowfin flasher is listed as peaceful and he's still a pushy jerk in this tank.

My point in all this is that the Fusion 40 doesn't have a good layout for multiple territorial fish, too much of the water volume is vertical. Be very careful in your selections and order of addition. It is also a difficult tank to get anything out of that doesn't want to get caught, at least if you have rockwork with a lot of caves and cover areas.

The six line is especially concerning from everything I've read. I've never had one, but if all of the common knowledge is true then a six line would most likely decide your whole tank is his and act accordingly.
