Is carib sea reef sand most ideal?

I found that for me, it is nearly impossible to syphon this sand clean as it not only makes a cloudy mess but It so easily gets sucked up into the syphon wasting my sand. Resulting in me never cleaning the sandbed. I read all over that this sand is awesome, but when I see mature beautiful reef tanks I'm noticing more aragonite for a substrate. Any thoughts or comments would be nice.

I run special reef grade... I love it. It does cloudy up for the first few months of siphoning, and you need to restrict the end of the siphon hose to keep it from getting sucked up

I use my finger...

Isnt arag alive reef sand, aragonite?

I am not sure haha i thought it was different than the straight up larger chunks of aragonite. There is aragonite sand and then there is aragonite pebbles or whatever they are called.

yes, that's how I do it. suck, pause, suck, pause, let it settle down, then suck some more. repeat to effect.

+1 thats how it is done. I kink the hose to reduce the flow, some use a finger and plug the end, other buy fancy faucite attached ones that have a control valve. In the end it's all the same, as with everything in this hobby just keep it slow and steady - Nothing can replace good husbandry.

Yep I just let the hard tube on the vac fillup with sand then kink the hose ..sand runs back down dirty water stays in the tube..then suck out dirty water.and repeat
