The_Noooob
Going to get an RODI unit, or purified water from store? Don't forget the test kit for ammonia, nitrate and nitrites! I will be getting an RODI Unit, i will be saving money if i purchase one. but for now i will be going to the closest PS and purchasing RO water thru them, that same day i will be getting my test kits so i can test it b4 starting the tank. i do have a lot of questions to ask, im just waiting for my shipment to arrive tomorrow. Pros and cons for having a sump with the type of tank im going to be getting. do i need one or nayyy.... or are there other alternatives instead of using a sump. for instance on my to buy list i have 1.Hydor Slim skim nano internal protein skimmer 2.aquarium reef reverse osmosis 6 stage RO/DI system made in USA. 3.JBJ Auto Top off water level controller and float sensor so far i have that. and little by little i will be getting other things... Elizabeth94
Thats awesome! It can be a lot of work, but its deff worth it as long as you can understand what is happening inside the tank. I really loved my sump in my old tank, all the equipment was hidden well and it was easy to access them to clean. However, my Glass-Holes kit was pretty loud even with modifications. There are so many other better overflows available today even compared to three years ago, its crazy how fast this hobby evolves!! You could always do some kind of hang on back refugium type thing if you want a place to put your equipment. Otherwise, NO, you do not neeeeeed one. Link to comment
righttirefire
The nuvo should be an ALL-IN-TANK so making it a sump'd tank seems like a waste. I have a sumped 20 long and a nuvo 8. Both have there pros and cons. I honestly like them both. Neither run a skimmer I do a 5 gallon water change on the 20 and the nuvo is new to me so I'm still working on my husbandry, testing levels, and establishing a system I run the tunze 3152 nano ATO. I took it off the 20 and put it on the nuvo, (smaller more sensitive sysyem). And have another coming for the 20. You may need to think about upgrading the stock lighting. I haven't upgraded mine, and everything seems fine under the Skkye 14k but I'm thinking nanobox tide for christmas Link to comment

Ill be waiting for a little longer for a hang in the back refugium, so far so good. i added my first clown fish and an anemone. BTW all my testings are as guidelines require. Im not going into the LPS corals yet because i am new to this. once i feel like i got the hang of things i will for sure add some LPS with time. Link to comment
Sunar357
I think you mean lighting for LPS....as SPS are the hardest to take care of. There are a bunch of 'recommended' lights. It'll come down to what you want to spend and if you prefer T5/LED/MH. Link to comment

Sunar357
Those lights should do softs and maybe some LPS. If you want to go LED the AI Prime seem popular for cheap, the Nanoboxes for more higher end. If you want to go T5 there are Aquaticlife or other 24" fixtures. Link to comment

The_Noooob
About a month old, cyano killing my tank but worth the wait. I have changed my rocks so many times, this was like my real first try in trying lol.. Horrible job.... I KNow lol i took all 3 rocks and killed them! lol Another scape lol i was just never satisfied. ahh about 2 months ago my wife decided to surprise me with a stand for the tank because it was on top of the dining table for about the first 3 weeks. welllll she never checked on the measurement and just bought a cheap ol crapy ikea stand. Holly smokes that thing was so horribly made. it took me about 2 weeks to get the new one due to it being custom made with real wood, not that compressed bull crap they sell. well here it is. look at the difference compared to the old one and the new one. ( higher stand, wider and sturdier) Link to comment

The_Noooob
a little happy to find out i have billions of pods in my tank! any suggestions of what type of fish eat them to keep my population stable? i was told Dragonets(mandarin) are not easy to keep but their main diet source is pods..... any input on these lil fellas? Link to comment
RIP Sebastian
Just about any fish will eat pods - especially wrasses! Dragonets will decimate your pod population unless they are trained. If you want to have a peaceful fish to take care of your pods, buy a Mandy and train it. Otherwise, pick up a six line! Link to comment
