The Reason for the Closure of Nemesis Pico and Birth of Nemesis III Read Spoiler.

So - Nemesis Pico (nemesis II) sprang a leak Saturday and I had to move the coral into a holding tank. Well tonight the holding tank sprang a leak and I had to move it into the Fusion 10 I bought earlier in the day. Our local reef shop: Coral Reef Shop. (Burlington Ontario) helped me out big time.

I will post pics later. I am sore, I am tired... I need a nap/sleep.

Why Nemesis III?

I will likely get this question at some point and the answer is, I'm a geek.

My everything is apparently named Nemesis. I love the name to absolute bits. my bicycle is called NemmySass, my Computer Nemesis, My laptop Nemesis Mobile, my first 10 gallon marine Nemesis Portal, Nemesis Nano - my first attempt at pico, then the reboot of Nemesis Nano was called Nemesis Pico, and then this one Nemesis III - the Harbinger. Why the obsession with Nemesis?

If you just scroll down a little you will see my signature and some sort of ship like thing in it. That is the Nemesis. As I said, I am a geek. The Nemesis and Nemesis II are the names of two Deception flagships in the Transformers Series. The Second, Nemesis II crashed and sank to the bottom of the Ocean. Hence the names like Nemesis Portal. I have often visualised the Decepticon space cruiser becoming encrusted with corals over time and becoming a thriving ecosystem based upon alien technology. This is more a thing I toy with in my fanfics. I won't go into detail of those. But that is where the name comes from. Admittedly naming something after a doomed craft might be somewhat of bad luck. I sure as pit would never name my tanks titanic. Not unless I want to find myself sinking in a flood.

But that is why Nemesis III. DECEPTICONS FOREVER!!

Happy 7th Month fusion 10!

Sorry I missed your 6th, but I was in sort of a strange place. Although its not much better now, we got jack hammers! I worry my tank might explode when it gets to our level.

Summer-like weather hit hard and fast. Not two weeks before we had snow, now we have weather pushing 30°c and my tank temp shot the hell up to nearly 85. I tend to panic. So I order a fan from Reefsupplies.ca and within 2 days it was at my doorstep. The temperature has been hovering around 78.5 and 79.5. Heater is back in and everything looks relatively happy.

I just need some corals to recover. I lost a few heads of blasto in the circumstance that surrounds this tank's birth, but I dipped it in revive and I think that has helped it along.

How's the 10 for you?

It's doing really well. I upgraded the return pump to a Sicce and use the spinstream so I can keep the display powerhead free. Here's a picture from a few weeks ago. I have since purchased an amazing yellow fiji leather and should be receiving the new nano box light soon.

IMG_0026_zpsoet9di42.jpg

I am very tempted to upgrade to either (i) IM Fusion 20 (ii) IM Fusion 25 or (iii) Red Sea Reefer Nano. I love the ease of the AIO along with the fact that you can hide all of the extra stuff in the cabinet below but I also like the idea of a sump with powerful skimmer that I would have with the Reefer Nano.

Where do you buy your coral? I have found the highest quality coral from Canada Corals in Mississauga. Everything I have purchased from them has done incredibly well in the tank.

fortunately loss of livestock was pretty much nil. I thougth i might lose the blasto, but I did a revive dip and it seemed to halt the rtn. itis poofy and is recovering.

And thank you for the welcome <3

I lear ned my water level in teh back was too high, I found protine skum on teh surface, I did a water change, lowered the water in the back and added a skimmer (wood airstone). This means my ATO is out of order. I am attempting to rectify this. I need to get styrene to build a hanger - maybe get some zipties and a fan.

So far my little fish loves its new tank .

Link to comment

my ATO is still disconnected but I check my levels twice a day. its a lot slower evap than my 1.5.

I tinkered with the light fixture. I added in a fan to cool the heat sink down. the fan is much smaller than I had before - more like a small CPU fan. I cut a circle of plastic out the top, and attached a fan guard.

Right now the whole fixture is very unattractive. Possibly the worst looking system I built before. But fo r now it will suffice until I can add in the other LED colours. I will look at project box options, I might be able to use one as a fixture holder.

Anyhow, enough said. tinkering done.

November 8th. 12:16pm

Yeah I know, usually my posts are like at 12am, this can still happen. tonight after work is maintenance night. I work as a cook in a restaurant, and well, we get off late. I generally prefer it because I don't do early days very well.

This tank will have been running for two weeks tonight. So far I will go over what I have seen in changes and relate them to the previous system and hypothesise what went wrong.

First of all, my mag is extremely low. I am waiting for my IM media basket that also has the mag. I had hoped it would arrive on friday - which was my birthday. But it will probably arrive tomorrow, which sucks because I am going out. I hope I can pick it up in the evening from the post office.

My hardness is rather high. I don't have an RO water supply, so unfortunately I do use tap. Bringing in RO or premixed water is barely an option as I do not have a car. I have a bicycle. Yes it has a trailer, but as I live in an apartment; storing loads of water is not exactly easy. RO system is expensive - it is something I would like to get, but I think that will have to come later. I don't know if there is anything out there I can simply connect up to the tap and run and disconnect later.

Livestock changes:

I am losing one zoanthid as far as I can tell - it may have a single polyp still. It got seriously faded in the pico. I am not sure why exactly but now once again I suspect light. The dimensions of this new tank is the same width (approx) but a bit wider, and higher. I reckon that the lights were dimmed so much the corals were not actually getting enough light, and any higher they would burn. Stuff appeared to just survive. I don't know what the difference between the pico's reboot and the first run because in the first run, stuff seemed to grow intensely well. SPS was somewhat problematic. That is why I avoided them this[the retired pico] time around. I am considering sps again, but only once I get my mag up and my calcium stabilised.

After the shock of tank transplant, all my zoanthids opened up. Including some that had closed just prior to the leak and started to shrink. Some of my zoas had shrunk really tiny, but now htey have opened up and are 50% larger and growing. Others are already starting to look like they are growing new heads and a few - my nuclear green paly, appear to be recovering their spectacular green. incidentally they are no longer stretching for light, But short flat and happy. The signs were there before, but I did not understand them.

the only thing that seems to be stretching for some light is my rockflower and that is because while the move was in progress, she planted her ass on what would be the backside (darkside) of a rock. She'll move I hope. I just hope not on top of my zoas. Only other AWOL creature is my blood red Carpet. I know where she is, and I hope she moves out from there because, she cost enough, and I really would like to see her.

I had taken damage to my Blastomussa during the leak incident. I had no place to really hold the head and I think with it laying on the side, one of the heads started to die off and started to kill another one, I dipped it for a while and it appears to have recovered beautifully. There is still the lost head, but at the rate this guy grows, that won't be a problem in short order. I count at least 7 heads that are big and puffy. I started out with one. I know more had developed, but they might not have done as well as the survivors.

The fish seems happier even.

The condition of my new 10 was I dismantle my old 10. the old 10 was not doing well, and i could not enjoy it as much. I had my inverts in there because they were too large for the pico. All inverts are now in my Nemesis III except the gorilla crab that is enjoying life in the 7.

The third large main rock I need to attach better. I have to go buy some marine putty. And then, and only then, will I add corals to it. But right this moment my gorgeous Hallowe'en Hermit crab is having a walk across it.

It just looks so beautiful and I could not be happier in the moring when I get up, to see the lights on and it looking like a shining jewel.

I am researching chemipure right now and considering it as media for my incoming media basket. That should arrive Monday or tuesday.

November 9th 9:18pm

Our mail usually arrives at about 2pm-ish. But clearly not today. I was expecting to go out around 3pm and ended up closer to 5pm when I tracked the postie on his route. I got my parcle and I am happy.

I was worried when my magnesium reading was low (I might have read the scale wrong)I thougth my mag was at 89, but I might have misread it. probably was .09 which would have pegged it on the slightly high side. I don't know. I suck with numbers. I tend to read them backward.

Anyway, my mag was at 1140 today, so I started to do the increase dosage routine.

SO what also arrived was my IM custom caddy for fusion 10 - 20. I put chaeto on the top, the sponge that came with the backet below with the carbon sponge (will be switched out soon, and carbon in the bottom (will be switched out for chemi blue when I get some.

tomorrow I hope to get my putty to solidify my rock structure. once that is colid then I can consider adding some corals to my upper structure.

I am going to do some reasearch as i would really like a small clam - I want to see what my options are. I am glad I did not get a clam before due to all my light issues. Anyway I am tired so I am gonna lay on my sofa and enjoy my tank.

I managed to pic up some chemipure elite - against manufacturers suggestion I opened the bag as I needed to put it in a smaller section of my media basket. But it seemed to be interesting.

I picked up a couple small zoas -a about 3 heads each and a finger leather. Since the finger leather frag is on a shell, I am keeping it on my frag rack for the moment. I think my hermits might consider wearing it.

I also picked up a ricordia and they let me have a rather sad looking gorgonian I could attempt to nurse to health.

I will take pics as soon as the clouds settle down. Once the rock is stable, I will add to it the corals I got sitting in the sand bed I want up higher.

I also got some putty to use to help bond my third chunk of rock, when it is set, I will go in with a bit more putty and attach the back bit a little better.

I ordered a koralia Nano 240 powerhead.

I hope to order a controller at some point. I am thinking of putting some mesh over it due to the fact I intend to keep it off at night and on a timer.

Things on my list of wants are:

RO System

Nano Ghost skimmer

and more buckpucks so I can add 4 more colour channels to my fixture.
