ReviloM
Anyone currently using a Canon 70D Mark II? This is my next possible upgrade and wanted to read your input on it. I toyed with it at the photography store and liked it. I am just curious to see others perspective. Link to comment
jedimasterben
I assume you mean the 7D and not the 70D? http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EOS-7D-Mark-II.aspx Link to comment

The 7DMk2 is Canons creme de la creme of crop sensors. Will you be using it for anything other than tank photography? There are other situations where you may prefer a full frame sensor like the 6D, but if you're not looking for the best low-light performance or slightly better IQ, then the 7Dmk2 is probably a better buy, a much richer feature set and better video. It will be used more at work than on my tank which is why I need the better frame rate for events. I did not toy with the 6D; I will try it out when I go back to the photography store. If you really want a sweet camera get the 5d MKiii the cost is too much me to consider it. Link to comment

jedimasterben
Have you considered pre-owned? Even used they're in the 2k range for one in good condition. A used 7Dmk2 in the same condition is still around half the cost. Plus, using it for work, I know I would want to purchase a new one. Link to comment

uwharrie
Depends on what you want out of a camera body. Better to go with a cheaper body and spend your $$$ on glass. I have shot with 5d 5dmkII 5 D MKIII 1 D ( up to a MK3) and a few others. So far like the 5DMKIII best. But that being said, good glass will get you further than top of the line bodies v Link to comment

I don't doubt it isn't a great camera. I will see if I can play with one when I go to the store. I still need to determine which lens I will use with the 7D mkII. Link to comment
uwharrie
All depends on what you will be shooting. Subject? Lighting conditions? ReviloM
People, scenery, inanimate objects; outdoors, inside lighting... Then my reef tank from time to time. Link to comment
Veng
The strength of the 7d ii is its autofocus. It's incredibly powerful, however it has a learning curve. You really need to be completely comfortable with the DSLR you own shooting in Av, Tv, or M and one shot vs Servo or you can really struggle with it. Link to comment
uwharrie
People- canon 70-200 2.8 IS - workhorse of a lens. YES is is pricey but it is by far my most used lens. Tameron and sigma both make nice lens. Go with the fastest ( lowest f stop) you can afford. I started with a rebel my next purchase was the 70-200. By FAR the best money I spent. Camera bodies come and go. GOOD Glass is in it for the long run. Canon has an advantage that other than the S lens ( not that good IMO) they all work with all bodies. If you are not sure rent a lens before buying People, scenery, inanimate objects; outdoors, inside lighting... Then my reef tank from time to time. Link to comment
brad908
If you're doing mostly video, get the 7dmkii. If you're doing mostly still shots, get the 6d. Lenses to consider: Sigma 24mm ART Sigma 35mm ART Sigma 50mm ART Sigma 85 1.4 or Canon 85 1.8 Canon 135L Link to comment
brad908
In case you are still looking for a camera, this is a great deal on a 7d http://www.photographybay.com/2015/11/16/cyber-monday-deal-3-from-canon-usa-includes-eos-7d-mark-ii-for-999/?utm_campaign=shareaholic&utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=socialnetwork Link to comment
urbaneks
I just recently bought the 70D after lamenting on the decision for more than a year. Really comes down to what you are going to use if for and your budget. If you are a hobbyist any of the MARKs are going to be overkill. If you are looking to get paid for photoprahpy, spend the extra money. For me I ended up getting a very nice body in the 70D and put the money I saved into the 100mm Canon Macro Lens. I'm still getting the hang of the setup but I can easily say that my photos are limited by my ability and not the equipment. Here is a quick sample shot taken with the 70D and the 100mm Macro Lens. uwharrie
Spending money on good glass is always a winning move. All of the current DSLRs will give you good images. Good or great glass will really make the difference LOVE the shot BTW Link to comment
ReviloM
I should have updated this a while back. I purchased the 70D about 3 weeks ago. I took some pics which you can find by clicking my tank build in my signature. Thanks for the replies! Link to comment
