What test kit to rely on

Okay, been wondering which people think is the best brand for CA and other needed tests. I did an experiment with Calcium as I have 3 different testers and I am dosing daily with B-Ionic No 1 and B-Ionic No 2 the specified amount and using Red Sea Coral pro salt. I have an IM Fusion Nuvo 10Gal with one clown, 1 large hammer coal, several polyps, a blue mushrooms, and a Blueberry Fan Gorgonian. All are healthy.

With Salifert my CA reads 430

With my API kit, it reads 420

With my Hanna meter, it reads 451

They Hanna is the most expensive and seemingly the most accurate as it gives you and exact reading based on a meter and not the human eye to interpret color change.

To me, this seems crazy to have such a large discrepancy. I was very careful with each test to make sure it was done as if I were in the chemistry lab.

any comments?

Best,

The Hanna calcium checker is notorious for giving inconsistent and inaccurate readings. I have it and have had the same issues (although some like it).

Given each kits' margin of error I believe they all overlap given your results. In my opinion, I'd use one of the other two kits and just keep your parameters in check with that kit. Consistency is key, and keeping your calcium consistent at '430' by the Salifert is better than chasing a number between all three :)

Thanks Admonition, the API is the easiest to use and your feedback supports my inclination to pick one, in this case the API, and just keep it at 420 knowing it could be a bit higher which is okay. Fusion 30L is nice!
