awcasper
Hi Guys, I'm Bryan, (AKA Awcasper, Aquameo, B. Do) from east San Jose, California. I started reefing in 2006, had multiple tanks, but sold everything to move to Vietnam in 2012. Now I'm back in The States. I gave up my career as a teacher to do reefing and ceramics full time. My company's name is Honey Badger Ecosystems. This tank was the grand prize in the raffle at the Neptune Aquatics grand opening (new location). I didn't know that when I hit up the guy on Craigslist. To me, it's a sign that I'm meant to reef, haha. vlangel
Very cool rock structures. I love the shapes you came up with, bonsai-ish. Are your ceramics porous enough to encourage beneficial bacteria to colonize? It looks like it is. It seems like you may have found a niche and I wish you the best of luck, both with your buisness and your tank! Link to comment
charnelhouse
Chiming in for Fusion 40 club support I second the question about porosity. Can you develop a bacterial filter with those ceramics? Do you have any plans for fish/inverts or are you doing corals only? How does the gyre do in this tank? I considered one but thought it would be too much flow. Link to comment
awcasper
I can work on porosity by adding combustable stuff like saw dust. It takes some experimentation to get it right. After awhile, the pores would be clogged with detritus and layers of bacteria. I think an algae turf scrubber and something like bio balls or ceramic rings in the sump would be better long term. What would you like to be made for fish and inverts? Oh. The gyre is great. If anything, the stock return pump is too much. I added two spinners to reduce and randomize flow. It's better now.
