Tmr8188
Just ordered a 25 gallon lagoon and I was wondering what the best options were for skimmers. I see the ghost isn't getting the best reviews. I will be auto dosing vodka and amminos. Primarily a mixed reef but sps dominate. Link to comment

Tmr8188
Looking to go with as clean look as possible so anything hob is out. However, the tunze is interesting. Off to read reviews. Link to comment
Jatz
The aquamaxx ws1 (JNS WS-1) is a beast and quiet (from what I've seen in mates tank). These are fairly small and fit in a lot of AIO chambers. I have the JNS VS1 hob and it did a great job while in use (it's basically the JNS WS1 as a hob). Currently I'm using a Aqua Medic Turboflotor Blue 500 and its doing a fantastic job. It's quiet, small and easy to use. Link to comment
StevieT
Tunze 9001. Remember people tend to type on the interweb when they are pissed off. Skimmers are not plug and play and most new users do not understand them one bit. Link to comment

StevieT
Steve can you honestly say it's better the aquamax hob The OP does not want a HOB skimmer so yes. Link to comment
Jatz
From what I've seen the JNS WS1/Aquamaxx WS1 works better and quieter than a Tunze 9004 (which is what my mate replaced). Link to comment

WhiteWulfe
So the aquamax ws1 fit in the back chamber? I would suspect that with a width of 3.2" it wouldn't be fitting in the back of a Lagoon 25 due to the depth only being 2.8" in the rear sump area. Link to comment

StevieT
Steve, I swear my 9001 does not fit in the lagoon tank. Middle pump chamber. Get rid of the Y tubing slit with two separate pumps (eheim 600's or similar) or possibly "T" at the top, but slit returns is your best option and a fail safe. Link to comment
Tmr8188
Would a maxspect gyre 130 be too much for this tank?* Link to comment
StevieT
Gosh yes. But you can split it in half and use it that way Link to comment

How would the skimmer mount with the magnet in the middle chamber? Thanks. Link to comment

gus6464
I ran a Gyre 150 on a 24x14x16 tank no issues. Delicious flow on power set to 1. Link to comment

StevieT
Thanks, did you ever find a smaller magnet to use? Yep. The Tunze skimmers now one with thinner magnets so that may work as well. Link to comment
