Protein skimmer for IM fusion 10G

Hello folks,

I've read that the CAD Lights PLS-50 Elite Nano Pipeless works in the IM fusion 20G with some modification but seeing if anyone had tried it in their IM fusion 10G or if it even fits with modification. Any other suggestions on a decent skimmer for the 10G?

I recently bought the desktop ghost protein skimmer and it is horrible. Could hear the rattling noise 10 yards away and messing with the air valve didn't do anything with noise or dial down the bubble produced in the main body. Maybe I got a bad one? I've tried adjusting the water level, soaked in vinegar, reading many post and such but no luck.

Never got any of the micro bubble problem but the rattling noise is too much. I sleep with a fan on too.

I just picked up the Fusion 10 as well.

There is hardly any room for a decent skimmer in the second chamber but I hear people using the PicoSkim 2.0..

I was thinking about modifying my Tunze 9002 because it works awesome. Ill need to cut it in a couple places and silicone it back together but if it works well I will deff post a thread on the mod. Might be a little while from now, I have midterms to worry about, so no tank fun until afterwards.

Seems like its a hit or miss on the Ghost skimmers. Some people lover them, some hate them. I hear once they break in they aren't too bad. I have no personal experience for you so I pretty useless. I think I am going skimmer less since the water changes will be super easy, and if I need a skimmer Ill do a hang on back if my mod doesn't work..

Good luck, I'm watching this thread

I wanted to get a pls 50 elite for the fusion 10 but not sure if it'll even fit after modification. I heard from someone on this form it does and they have done so.

Iv been looking at the HOB skimmers but just realized they wouldnt work with my light brackets in the way.

So dont forget about that in your search. It can be easily missed.

Guess ill have to get on with the tunze mods

Picked up the coralife airstone skimmer and a tetra 20 for about $32 together. Tossed out the air pump it came by default and got the tetra 20 and it's dead silent. I'm getting great foam on my IM 10G so far.

Gonna wait for the cadlight PLS50 elite for my other thank.

I'm curious is the coralline quiete? Can you attach a photo of it in the tank? I have a fusion ten as well.

I've used this for about 10 days so far and there is some pro and con's.

- It's cheap and is pulling some light tea color stuff. My glass is not covered in brown crud anymore so I'm guessing it's going into the collection cup. When i rinse the cup and wipe it with a towel, a lot of brown stuff. I feed consistently using a tiny micro-spoon for reference.

- The air pump it comes with sucks but I tossed it out after 2 days. It felt warm to hot and made a big humming noise. I went with the tetra 20 and it's silent.

- I turn my pumps off when I feed then wait a minute until the chambers are leveled before plugging in the skimmer. However, for some reason I need to adjust the position slightly each time so that's my biggest problem so far but I could probably live with it. I'm also using a ATO so water level is consistent.

- It uses a limewood airstone which is recommended to change monthly and a lot of reviews have mention ppl change it every 3 to 6 months. Basically wait to see it works less better then change. It's $5 on amazon but there are other brands you can get a big batch for less.

Here's a video I found on youtube before I bought this:
