Innovative Marine 30 Long

I am very excited to start a thread for my new tank! I'm returning to the saltwater aquarium hobby after a hiatus of about 10 years. I had a basic FOWLR tank in high school. It crashed while I was away working at a summer job. Between college and grad school I haven't had the time or resources to start a new tank, but I've been lurking on nano-reef looking at all the awesome tanks in this community. I finally decided it was time to start again.

I decided to go with an all-in-one tank. I live and work in a college residence hall, so I was concerned with a sump potentially backing up and flooding my college-provided apartment. I settled on the Innovative Marine Fusion 30L. I really like the dimensions of the 30L, because I'm a big fan of long shallow tanks. The tank has been up and running for a few weeks. I will be adding some additional CUC and my first fish and corals soon. My plan is to go with a very simple look. I prefer the look of a handful of corals that are larger and grown in, instead of a tank with a hundred 1 inch frags. I'm particularly fond of razarmi's 40 breeder TOTM, so I will be taking some inspiration from that tank.

Equipment List:

Innovative Marine Fusion 30L (with IM overflow protector and spin stream nozzles)

Aquatic Fundamentals 50/65 Stand

10 pounds Pukani Dry Rock

10 pounds Live Rock from LFS

30 pounds CaribSea Special Grade Live Sand

Reefkeeper Light Controller

Jebao RW-4 Powerhead

Current USA Orbit Marine LED 36-48"

Eheim Jager TruTemp 50 Watt heater

Marine Depot 4-Stage RODI system

Planned Livestock:

2 Black and White Clownfish

Another small fish (goby, wrasse, royal gramma, dottyback?)

CUC - I have 4 bumblebee snails, I will be adding some ceriths and nassarius snails in the next few days

Pictures to come.

Are you looking at growing hard corals? Like acros?

No. I will only be doing basic softies. To be honest I prefer the motion of soft corals, and I feel like they look most like what I picture when I think of a reef habitat. I really like the look of razarmi's TOTM, so that's kind of what I am planning. I've seen a number of folks with great looking tanks (all on the shallow side) with the basic Marine Orbit light fixture, so I figured that would meet my needs with soft corals.

There is quite a bit of algae growth from the past week or so. I will be picking up some additional CUC members to get to work on it. I may also dial back the lights a bit.

Awesome tank I have the exact same tank they're awesome, can't wait to see what you have in store!

Thanks! I really like the tank too. The dimensions are great, and the tank just looks so sleek. I'm very glad with the choice so far. I will be following along with your thread as well!
