vlangel
Hi all. I just got a sun coral yesterday but I can't get it to open to feed. Don't they usually eat when the lights go out? Any tips or tricks I can try? Link to comment

Any tips or tricks I can try? Lights out for sure. Like several hours after. Sometimes they will stay out all night. Baste a nice mix of smelly goodness right ontop of it about an hour or two after lights out. It should start opening up if healthy. Link to comment
Newstead
+1 . Mine turned around when I was told to put it in a tupperware container, take out of tank in the container and baste (I used mysis and coral gumbo ). It now opens during the day after slowly moving the time forward each day or two. Link to comment

Another method if you don't want to take it out of the tank, is to take an empty 2 liter bottle and cut the bottom off of it. Place the bottle over the coral and baste the coral with mysis. With this method, all other critters can't get to the shrimp and bother the coral. Link to comment
GoingPostal
Smelly goodness, chopped clams, reef roids/chili, selcon, garlic in the water to stimulate a feeding response at first. You might have to squirt it on them a few times every 10 minutes or so until they open up well, it really depends on how they were taken care of previously. A colony used to being fed will open up and eat quick. Starved one is going to take more effort. Lights off and decent flow. Link to comment
