New to SW but not to aquaruims - Need Help

Hey All,

 

Ive had African Cichlids for 3 years now but I'm going to get another tank to finally start up my SW tank. I have a question about cycling. If I used Nutri Sea Water to fill my tank up and then added my live rock do I need to cycle? My house we use well water. I was considering filling the tank once with the nutri water and then order 20g per month for water changes. Let me know and I'm sure I'll be asking more questions in the future.

The cycle depends on the rock. Even if the live rock you purchase is "fully cured", you should still monitor it. Assuming you are using live rock, ammonia should be undetectable for a week straight before it is considered cycled.

 

Even with well water, it's possible use a RO/DI system (you can use a booster pump if necessary). If you prefer, you could use distilled water. So you have a few options.
