Hello all!

I really love this coral but the LFS isn't 100% on the name, he has had it for years. Anyone know what it is? I must have one!

The polyps next to it in the picture are stretching too. Needs more light I would guess.

Too low of lighting causes them to cup upwards and reach towards the top.

Wow so this monti cap esc look is do to the coral reaching for light? That sucks! They have such good color I would have never guessed.

So is there any other way to get this shelve look?

Not from this coral, happy ones are flat to the rock like an Yuma waiting for food to fall.

Well darn I couldn't knowingly provide a poor environment for my livestock.

Any alternatives you guys could suggest? Planning my stocking for the JBJ 45. I haven't got a light yet so no limit there.

Placement under a shadowy embankment will also achieve this look. No need to keep your tank in piss poor conditions man.

Ha-ha that's what I want to avoid! I don't want to stress the coral in any way so I'm looking for other corals that grow that way when they are happy.

Honestly you could light those mushrooms with a flashlight bulb and they would be ok! It's not going to stress them out. If you like them get them. I used to propagate shrooms by slicing them up then pouring them into 5g buckets with a tiny powerhead and a flourescent shoplight over them on a timer and just toss in a few select chunks of lr and forget about them topping them off whenever I remebered to so. I used to get detached shrooms a buck or two a pop the lfs years before everyone wanted to start charging ridiculously priced rodactis shroomies! You couldn't give them away back then!
