Oneslowsaleen
I just picked up a 10 gallon tank from petsmart for 1$ gallon sale which I got another 20% off on . So for 24$ I got tank ,50 watt heater and a thermometer . But here is my question , I started with fresh salt water , put a piece of cured live rock in , stuck a old hang on the back filter with purigen and filter floss. Now not even thinking , the QT tank needs to cycle and fish comes tomorrow . Can I take water from my main tank and put it in the Qt tank, I was thinking 5-7.5 gallons from my main tank 29 gallon tank? Link to comment
Benny314
Well if the LR was cured then it's unlikely to have any sort of cycle, certainly not a hard one. Yes you can water change with display water into your QT, but you can't put QT water in the display. But tank water isn't going to make any difference in terms of cycle (very little bacteria in the water column). Your better off putting a piece of LR from your established display into the QT. However you can't put it back in the display as again that would defeat the point of the QT. Most people run the QT's completely empty (maybe some PVC pipe for cover/hidey holes) and rely on media in the filter or a skimmer and regular small water changes to keep the system clean.
