cycling a biocube

Hey man. A few ways to cycle. You can use bio spira or a similar product and put 1 fish in right away. You can add a little bit of food so it'll turn into ammonia, this takes longer but works. Couple of cubes seems overkill though.

I cross link threads between our friendly sites all the time, r2r often gets the nr.com peroxide thread link lol

this is a good one for cycling, more detailed than most, and the kind of live rock you are considering buying is shown here in clear review

we can chat here at nr.com if you had any follow ups or if anyone has any challenges, its all in the name of good science. made some claims in that thread above that are often out of bounds...such as coralline algae always indicates the presence of full nitrifying bacteria, but the absence of coralline does not indicate the absence of nitrifying bacteria. why not hit the confusing stuff right up front :) after all, most just recycle already cycled live rock redundantly so its fair to discuss

the point of this thread is never wasting any time on your tank being unsure, but knowing every phase and being able to predict what your tank will do all hardware and procedural luck in place.

I agree with bulkhwkz,

Pure ammonia is great to use. One way to test if it is safe is obviously to double check the ingredients, but also to shake the bottle real well at the store. The stuff you want to use should NOT make bubbles. You don't want any added scents or detergents, just the "pure" stuff.
