Display: 4g CAD Lights
Lighting: Nanobox Mini Tide plus M
Filtration: Homemade basket filter

Skimmer: mame
Heater: Cobalt neo therm
Circulation: Hydor 200 with spinstream
ATO: Micro smart ATo

So first im new to the world of reefs and coral care so always feel free to give your 2 cents. My friend got me into this as he was getting out to move so i have acquired some things from him which i am grateful for. While shopping for supplies on NR i found this nice 4g cadlight for sale and just could not pass it up.

My build is going to be very slow due to the costs and my financial situation so just hang tight and we will get through this. Here the tank is with some water in it to see if there are any leaks

Thanks guys i appreciate it. Since the tank didn't come with a media basket i was in the mood to try and make one for cheap. I have tones of egg crate and plexi glass laying around the house from the frog hobby so i looked at tons of pictures on the internet and came up with this.

Ignore all the silicone. It doesn't look pretty but i think it will work.

Also I have been talking to Teeny about his pico (which is amazing if you haven't seen it you need to :D) The return on this looked low and compared to the 10g Fusion tank i have and other tanks i have seen i decided to go ahead and move it up and put in a hydro flow.

Then i filled it up and left it running for a day or 2 to see how it did and to adjust flow.

Seems like enough for the day any more and ill catch up to where im at :( then you will sit and wait with me which is no fun for any of us.

Nice job on the DIY media basket. It will do the job and nobody can see it anyway :)

You probably already did this, but make sure you have media loaded up when you check the flow.

Yup i had filter floss in and a sponge filter so it would add the correct resistance. Also the media basket worked for a while but the silicone bond to the egg crate didn't hold well so it was back to the garage with some loctite which is holding well:)

Alight time to catch up to where im at. As i told teeny The basket worked for a while but needed some minor repairs afterwords the bond between egg crate and plexi just wouldn't hold but nothing a little loctite wouldn't fix

Basket works great now.

I ended up increasing the flow into the rear chamber and it seems to have helped a bunch

Then i have also added a neo therm 25watt heater which i really like and am hoping works well for me

Now we wait for money to buy a refratometer, sand, salt , and rock.

I think im going to go with the rock from reefcleaners. Looks to be some good stuff.

Nice start! I have the same tank sitting around waiting for a few more pieces to get it started. You have any pics of the return. I'm trying to decide if I will change mine.

The return was very low and I liked what Teeny did. Basically i glued plexi over the old one and drilled a new one higher up to install the hydor flow.

What did you use for the elbow to go out of the hole. I was thinking about the rio pumps which come with all that stuff. I already have the hydor wave deflector thing.

I followed Teenys advice and used a rain bird 1/2 barbed elbow in the outdoor area of home depot. I cut off on of the ends and slid it into the hole. Connects directly to the hydor flow. Ill tank some pictures later tonight of the connection and what i did.

Ok I cut off one of the ends and slid it into the hole. Connects directly to the hydor flow. the pictures should show pretty well what was done.

cool, super simple, I love it. did you have a giant drill bit to move the return area.

When I'm done in my thread I'll show you a cool idea for the intake.

No I just used a simple step bit I bought at harbor freight and I had to use a right angle attachment to fit it in the tank very simple to do

  • 3 weeks later...

Not much to report on this still waiting to order stuff. I did get a package from John at reefcleaners omgomgomg

I promised my wife though i would open it with her  so we all have to wait to see what great rocks John sent me.

Since a picture of a box is just a tease i thought i would share what the local petco had... I really want all three of those fish

The rock looks great I'll probably have to break it down a bit. Now if I can only find some time to play with it and see what I can come up with

this may or may not be a good idea but i swing in my local petco about every other week. sometimes they have nice coral that just got in for sale and its usually cheap. I got a 100+ Radioactive dragon eye zoa frag for 13 dollars and two 5 head candy cane corals for 10 dollars each.

My local Petco has ick investation. I went in the other day and I saw the left of a firefish being devoured by an emerald crab. Poor thing it's eyes were staring at me.

The other Petco I went to a month ago in Ann Arbor.... The corals are all covered in algae. I wondered why they even bothered cleaning the glass. Might look better if you cannot see what's in the tank.

I had really wanted this tank because I loved the design of the light. I've heard people adding actinic strips to it to supplement the intensity. However when I called CADlights they said they don't have this light anymore. So I ended up with my Petco 6.25 Arc.
