soeminpaing
I have been running rowaphos in my minimax desktop reactor for about two months in my fusion 20 gallons. I am now switching to TLF NPX biopellet and wonder how many of you run biopellets in a nano? I add two tablespoon of pellets. Is that a good amount? Link to comment
Jai Sakura
I've ran biopellets before in a nano but only when my nitrates where constantly showing up. I believe its something on the order of 10:1 nitrate/phosphate consumption for biopellets. From my experience and observation, if my nitrates are already fairly low or nonexistent from biological filtration without the biopellets, I start having phosphate removal issues and nuisance algae appears. I have added GFO on top of that but over removing phosphate can cause an imbalance in the 10:1 ratio with biopellets and my nitrates begin to reappear. It becomes a terrible juggling nightmare. In a low or nonexistent nitrate situation without biopellets, I've had much better luck with just running GFO alone . Removing phosphate and nitrates separately makes it much easier in this situation since the removal of either are not dependent on one another. Unless I have a consistent number above 0 ppm for nitrates, I don't use biopellets. However, this is only based on my experience, observation and understanding with using biopellets and may not be that accurate. Link to comment
Wretched
Based on my experience as well.... I used the same reactor in a 45 (MidSize) ran bio pellets but for a very short period of time. I'd stick with the rowaphos in the reactor. In a tank that small, consistent water changes, properly rinsing food, proper flow and proper feeding amounts would suffice. If nitrates get out of hand, perform water changes and skim at a more-wet style. If you're experience extreme high nitrates, all of the above and look into a carbon dosing source... Good luck Link to comment
soeminpaing
I have to reduce the amount of the pellets to around 1 spoonful because algae are turning white and my LPS are shrinking. After the amount has been reduced, it has been stable with almost no algae with happy LPS. I used to do waterchange and GFO but want a better solution. So far so good for me. I am using less than 1/4 of the recommended amount. Link to comment
