DIY Stand Questions (first time)

Hello Everyone,

I am going to make my first attempt at building a stand for my new 48 x 24 x 13 inch tank. I have done some research and really like the look of the DIY ADA stand made on this forum: http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forumapc/diy-aquarium-projects/40809-building-ada.html
Will using only plywood be able to hold my size tank? I would like the tank to be as light as possible but at the same time be able to hold something that's probably around 600 pounds filled with water. And of course not having to shell out a lot of money in the meantime.
I am going to run to Home Depot today and pick up supplies.
Thank you!

Do a stand of Poplar. 1x4 spanned at 48 inches with pocket holes. Take a look at my thread to see my stand build. I didn't do a complete walk through but I showed some progress pictures. It is all 1x4 Poplar board and 3/4 ply. Had about 1,000lbs on it and it didn't budge. LINK

So:

Poplar

Kreg Jig

3/4 ply for top. Skin with 1/2 ply. Make sure to get the good presanded stuff. Home Depot has much better play than Lowes does but Lowes has better Poplar. Atleast at my stores.

Thans for the recommendation. I didn't even realize there was another type of material that would be strong enough to hold large amounts of water. Do you mind if I ask how much Poplar is? One thing I forgot to mention was the stand's height will be about three feet. How tall is your stand? My tank is shallow so I didn't want to make the stand too tall because my setup will look mainly stand instead of tank (if that makes sense).
