So I'm Brand New To The World Of Clams.....

So i have a JBJ 28 with an AI Prime over it, solid filtration, running an InTank basket, floss, purigen, and chemipure elite. I have mostly all LPS, with a TON of zoas, and one piece of SPS (stylo). Everything flourishes, and I'm wondering if my tank is ready for a clam. its been running over a year, 7 gallon weekly water change, floss changed every 3 days. the thing that I'm worried about is my lighting. do i have enough? too little? and i don't have ANY room in my sand bed, can it go on a flat rock? more info if needed.... but what clam would be best for me?

I think you're ready, but you probably will want to feed your clam phytoplankton as your filtration system sounds pretty strong. I'd go with a squamosa or derasa for a first clam (there are very pretty blue squamosas if you search around). Just get one that is over 2-3 inches, for some reason the itty bitty ones are more sensitive. You can also try your luck with the more finicky maxima or crocea, you'll never know how they will do until you try it :)

Ive had better luck with maximas my derasa had a bacterial infection twice, if you get a derasa be careful with feeding phyto, dont direct feed as it can clog the gills. IMHO feeding phyto isnt needed just get a clam from a reputable dealer or the shop knows were it was farmed

Plus one to this I lost my first derasa by feeding like this. I have an ulns so I figured it would be good for the clam. My current clam is much happier if I broadcast feed instead. Is this true with maximas too? I have one on order and am wondering if I should target feed that one or not.

NEVER target feed a clam. They filter feed only

Yea it did suck but I caught it and treated it both times clam is still alive, though im having much different problems with my tank right now, took a gamble and failed. The cause of the infection I think was due to having to transfer all my live stock from a 20l into a partitioned 10
