holy carp
I pulled out one of my rocks to remove some digitate hydroids, and this time a couple of new residents showed up. They looked almost like tiny shrimp or gigantic pods. I was surprised at the size - about 8mm long excluding the antennae. Any idea what this guy is and where it could have come from? Unless it's from eggs that survived a ReVive dip, I have no idea. A couple of them fell off the rock when I took it out. This one was out for a couple of minutes, and although not dead, just seemed to float at the surface when I threw it back in the tank. The fish didn't seem too interested in eating it... ajmckay
It's an amphipod. A beneficial crustacean. Typically they eat algae and detritus. Nice pics. Link to comment

jamescstein
+1 amphipod albeit a large species.. They are mostly harmless. Any fish you might have that eats crustaceans will love them. Link to comment
