ReefBacon
Hello All! I have recently, finally ventured into the hobby. First initial thoughts I am paying how much for live rock, sand and salt water? I thought I would upload pics and spec and see if you guys could lend me any newbie advice. Spec: 1x 75 Watt Sera Heater 1x Sera Biofilter medium hidden in Fluval 2 plus pump instead of carbon sponge. 2x V2 iLumenair Nanos (Marine White and Reef Blue) 1x Reef Skim Nano 50 1x Carib sea Argonite Sand 2x Chunky live rock (hopefully where my coral will live) I do not have a RO/DI pump yet, or sea salt or any livestock. The tank is currently cycling and I have been told to leave it for a month. Any tips on what is vital next? I was thinking a Marine testing kit and also Hydrometer. Do I need an RO/DI? Should I start with marine critters first or dive in with some corals. Ideally I want to set up as a reef tank with just clean up crew. Any help appreciated, Chris Link to comment
HarryPotter
A Refractometer is MUCH better than a hydrometer, it's worth the $25. The tank looks very deep for those little lights, but I haven't heard of that brand Edit: Those lights are tiny... 3leds each? What corals are you looking to support? Link to comment
ReefBacon
Hi HarryJ, Thanks for the tips I will be sure to pick up a Refractometer. The brand for the lights is TMC Aquarium, sorry I didn't include. 3W, 3 X 450 - 465nm (Reef Blue) 3W, 2 x 12000K + 1 x 450 - 465 nm (Marine White) LEDs Do you think that will be sufficient to grow coral? I was interested in a mix of LPS and SPS. But I really have no clear where to start with that TBH. Link to comment
charnelhouse
You, my friend, NEED a sump. Link to comment
ReefBacon
It's pretty scrappy looking isn't it, that would be cool. Sadly I think I will have to wait to upgrade to that. Do you think I have enough lighting? Thanks for the sump tip. Link to comment
charnelhouse
Can't really offer any input on the lights. Looked briefly but there is no PAR info that I see. They look underpowered for your depth of tank though. Link to comment
ReefBacon
Thanks Charnelhouse, I will def look into improving this otherwise I won't even be able to get started. Went into the LFS and asked what I needed to start a reef tank, I guess if you don't do your research this is what happens! Such a Noob Link to comment
