Normally I do my own identifications or just let it be if I cant figure it out, but I found something so bizzare today, I just had to make an ID thread. There is is in the middle of the picture. A closer image. The pictures don't really do it justice, so let me be as descriptive as possible. This 20 gallon tank is well over a year old, and I haven't added anything new to the tank in quite a while. I just noticed it today while doing tank maintenance. "Hmm, what IS that?" I asked myself. I proceeded to lightly touch it with my fingertip. "Maybe its just the rock?...No...the rock has never had a dark spot like that..." When I touched it, I found it to be fleshy in texture. Not like touching a coral tissue that gives way to the slightest of pressures, but more like touching your own skin. A little freaked out, I substitute my finger for a long thin stick for further investigations. It does not respond to touch at all. It cannot be lifted easily from the rock (I did not use much force though). And when applying pressure to the sides, it bounces back to its original shape. I observed it for about 10 minutes and it did not move at all. Perhaps its not even alive, but then....just what IS it? Link to comment
amphipod Posted September 1, 2015 Share Posted September 1, 2015 Thank you for being very descriptive, that really helps a long way in identification, just one question, look really closely at it, try to see if there is any holes, now look even more at any holes if there is any, and see if they are many little holes of assorted sizes, or just a few holes of nearly equal size. tubbis9001 Posted September 1, 2015 Author Share Posted September 1, 2015 If this thing has any holes, they are too small to see from about 12 inches away (as close as I can get without lifting the rock out). There appears to be one hole about 1 mm across, but its not very deep. On closer inspection, it looks more like a blemish rather than a hole that's supposed to be there. Link to comment
