The Dish
Still new tonthebsaltwater side of things so please excuse my ignorance... Biocube 14 been cycling for a little over 2 weeks. Started off with 14lbs live rock and live sand with crushed coral. I'm assuming this is my diatom bloom as that's where my cycle of the tank should be but this is long and stringy and I had the assumption that diatoms just sort of coated things and didn't really look like hair algea. My plan is to start slowly adding a clean up crew in the next week or so. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Link to comment

charnelhouse
Crap, I'm glad I checked. Suggestions on eradication? Add your CUC. Hair algae isn't that big a deal and you should just resign yourself to there being algae in the tank for the first year or so. It will come and go as the tank matures. But add CUC. They will eat that stuff. Link to comment
Markburns43
Yep I battled hair algae for a couple months manual removal regular filter floss changes good cuc, stay on top of water changes and ride it out. It will get depressing but it will go away as long as you keep your tank stable don't rush adding live stock other than algae eaters you'll be good to go. Oh and get a good tooth brush and a net and every water change goto town scrubbing and removing it with the net with your filtration off . If you have a power head keep that running use it to stir up the algae u remove then do a water change. Best o luck Link to comment
