Serial Killer on the lose

Over the past month, once a week I have found one of my hermit crab dead when I get up in the morning. Crime scene has been wiped down no prints or clues... haha. No shell in site and his abdomen gone (eaten presumably). So far there has been four murders in the past month.

This gang had maybe 6/7 blue hermit members, all are about a year old and have grown. They also have one place the like to hang out. They gather there as if making plans and then go their separate ways. Kinda funny.

I suspect they are killing each other looking for larger shells, but only guessing here. Witnesses are 3 clowns, one blue tang, clown goby. None of them are talking...

Are you sure they aren't just molting?

By the way I have a serial killer in my tank. It's my female clown. She kills hermits and snails. I was wondering what was happening until I saw her in the act.

Nope this is no molt, 1/2 body is left. My fire shrimp does molt and if does freak me out thinking he died but then I realize its an empty shell. There its truly a front of the body left.

Another death last night.

Emerald crab was belly up. No signs of struggle, he appears to be fully intact no missing limbs or claws.

Water parameters are with in specs's. This one has me a little puzzled. I do/did have 5 or 6 emeralds with one really big hairy one, but I've never seen them have any tiff's with one another. Possible suspect is a purple dottyback but after lengthy integration he stated he goes to bed early and wakes up only after the lights are on...

Drelchler; I believe that to be a Jewel Damselfish, juvenile one. I shot that picture in St. Thomas in June. I was snorkeling there snapping pics of some other fish when that one swam out. He's only about 1/2" long but when the sun hit him his colors were even more vivid. Snapped about 20 pic and that was the best one I got.

Peel up the dead emeralds carapace, see if it's hollow because crab moults look so convincing .

Better have an assortment of empty shells for them to switch in as they grow.
