Amy
I am using Instant Ocean and my Alk is at 7 which is a bit low. If I were to use the Reef Crystals would it bring it up to where it should be for the Alk? Also if so, is there any harm in mixing Instant Ocean and Instant Ocean Reef Crystals when doing a water change? I would like to use up my Instant Ocean. 5 gallon Nano Paly's Zoas 4 Chalice's 1 Lord Acan 3 Florida Rics 1 Rhodactis 2 Purple Whip Sea Fans Link to comment
Pinner Reef
Reef Crystals should help bring up the alk at least a little and yes you can mix the two. Link to comment
Benny314
I've chucked salts together with no issues, but a lot of people say if your changing salts you must slowly phase out your old salt in favour of the new, but I don't subscribe to that thinking. Natural sea water has an alk of about 7dkh so 7 is fine as long as your stable. I aim for about 8dkh so I have some cushion if something starts sucking up alk with out me realising. You could always buffer your alk with either a commercial supplement or mixing up some baking soda with RO and dosing it accordingly to reach you desired alk. Link to comment
