Lets try this again. ;) I am in need of some micro brittle stars. All of mine died in my move and I would like to repopulate my tank with a few. Hopefully someone has some in their chaeto or somewhere easy to catch a ship. :happy:

Are you able to get them out? People have shipped them first class with chaeto and had no problems with dieoff. I don't think they are fragile enough that they'd had to be overnighted.

Would this work ?

I do not sadly, thank you though! I'm hoping someone is willing to ship a few my way.

 

jbb, that websites ordering system is very confusing, I also wish they had actual pictures up instead of the cute little drawings. Have you ordered from them before? Did you like what you ordered?

The tough part is getting them to leave their rocks; if you don't get any joy, drop me a PM and I can try shipping some. As you're not too far and the weather's decent, it might work out ok!

I have not ordered from them , I just knew that they had odd ball stuff like that . There is a video link that shows the actual stars .

I've had a few shipped to me via priority and they did just fine. Apparently they are pretty easy to culture in a small 10 gallon tank and minimal other equipment. IPSF used to have a video on how to set up a tank to do it. It may be on you tube somewhere. If I can get ahold of a bunch I will toss them in my fudge with some chaeto and let them go to town.

 

GTi- I'm outside of Chicago, they would definitely make it to me via priority if you are ever interested in shipping

Oh nice, look at how active they are in those cups! If I can't get them from a fellow reefer I'll give them a try.

I figured they would ship well. I lost all mine during a long tank move and lots of dips to make sure bad critters didn't make the move also.

 

So hopefully someone can ship these priority to me! :)

If we could work something out that would be great. I have been trying locally for months. I would be willing to use one of my extra 10 gallon tanks to try and get a culture going to pay it forward to other reefers on here....

I'll see if I can kidnap some during my tank swap. Sometimes they go walkabout. Trying to remove them from the rock is almost impossible. Shoot me a PM in a few days to see how it's going or if I've forgotten!

Merth - Go to your LFS and scoop some out of a sump. I'm sure they will give them to you for free.

They don't have any in their tanks. I've looked extensively. :( I agree about the $35 being too much, which is why that is the last ditch effort.

Ideally I'm looking for somewhere between 8-10 so I can put some in each of my tanks. I love how great these guys are at getting into little nooks and they are the perfect size for pico tanks

You could go to petsmart and grab one of those cheap breeder nets that hang on your tank, as you see the stars out and about just grab them and toss them in the breeder net. I'll shoot you a PM sunday and see what's what

Where approximately are you? I'm in the area as well.

 

And yes, $35 (even shipped) for 6 of these seems like a lot. I had lots of them in a previous tank. They weren't particularly hardy though. Easily smashed and the moment one gets into the water column its a snack for something.

 

I'm sure if you asked your LFS for a few they would have some in the LR bin or in a sump somewhere... They're not rare. Maybe buy a small piece of LR that has some on it?
