fish12345
My dad has a "150" gallon tank with a 40 gallon sump. I think actually water capacity is around 190 gallons. At the moment he has a blue tang, a yellow tang, 3 ocellaris clowns, 1 blue damsel, and 1 purple psuedochromis. There is around 250 lbs of live rock and an enormous reef octopus skimmer (I think its rated for 300 gallons). I was asked to check if adding a flame angel and another tang (naso, powder blue, or lieutenant tang) will cause any problems with aggression in the tank. Link to comment
markalot
Of course it will, tangs hate each other. The trick is to get a final species meaner than the others, but it can be problematic and this question is best answered by someone used to keeping tangs. Flame Angle no issue, I just added a Coral Beauty angel that adapted without a problem. What's missing here are wrasses. Look into wrasses, but avoid sixlines at all costs because once one is in the tank you can't add any more wrasses. Research research research. Link to comment
fish12345
My dad isn't a fan of wrasses. It looks like it will be hard to tell if they will get along and there is nothing but anecdotal evidence going both ways about whether it is safe to keep tangs together. The tank is large though and both the current tangs are small (under 3 inches) so I am hoping another young tang will be safe in the tank. Link to comment

IMO another tang will work, namely a more peaceful acanthurus or naso tang. A small naso tang or lieutenant tang would be nice, PBTs get too aggressive and aren't as hardy. If there's sand, a halicheores wrasse will be pretty (Show him pictures) I'm also partial to triggerfish. Blue throat, Sargassum, or even Crosshatch triggers are relatively reef safe and incredible. Genicanthus angelfish are nice, and won't have problems with the flame angel, more reef safe butterflyfish can be cool. Longnose and pyramid butterflyfish are best for reefs. A group of threadfin cardinalfish or dartfish would be nice as well. Link to comment
