Dreichler
So i have a JBJ 28 with an AI Prime, so no hood. I fell in love with the pygmy octopus at the LFS for $25. I obviously can't put it mainly in the tank with all the corals and fish. So i was thinking is it possible to buy like a 1-1.5 gallon acclimation tank that is acrylic, with small holes, a lid, put some sand, tiny live rock, and maybe some zoas, and hang it on the side inside the tank. And keep him in there. He is about 2 inches (3 tops) from head to end of tentacles. I mean is it possible AT ALL to keep it in the tank itself? Will he 100% escape guaranteed? Link to comment
Muraki
They are very smart creatures.... Wouldn't put it past an octopus to figure something out. Link to comment

Muraki
If I am not mistaken, he would need his own tank specially designed around him. Wouldn't be right keeping him in such a small enclosed space. Link to comment
pgrVII
If it can fit it's beak through and crevices the body easily will slip through. Link to comment
Dreichler
If it can fit it's beak through and crevices the body easily will slip through. But it is 100% guaranteed it will get out of my hoodless 28 Link to comment
PicoSavvy
Out of curiosity what is the minimum tank size for a pygmy octopus? Link to comment
patback
Out of curiosity what is the minimum tank size for a pygmy octopus? not a box meant to hold a fish for an hour at most, that is for sure. op, an octopus is a specialty pet. if you dont want to spend money on a true set up for it, dont buy it. you wouldnt get a great dane and expect it to live in a studio apartment, dont do the same with the octopus. they are extremely smart and NEED stimulation, even in a full reef tank. Dreichler
Out of curiosity what is the minimum tank size for a pygmy octopus? i believe its 10g Link to comment
PicoSavvy
I know the box is small for one. I read for the average octopus you require at least a 55 gallon tank and for a dwarf it around 10 gallon minimum for a single one. I just want to confirm this, don't want to spread wrong information Link to comment
Harpers
Go on reefcentral.com they have a cephalopods forum. Any octopus can fit through any hole there beak fits through. Also pygmy octopus don't live very long maybe a couple months to maybe a year or more with good care. Link to comment
jbb
Shot this a couple months ago Octo was about golf ball size at the body , tube was just big enough to stick a bic pen inside Sadly he was killed by a tube nem not long after Link to comment
pgrVII
At an aquarium they had issues with animals missing out of tanks when they came to work in the morning, they set a camera up and found the octopus was climbing out of its tank, going to the tank of desired food eating it and returning to its tank.
