Pygmy Octopus Question

So i have a JBJ 28 with an AI Prime, so no hood. I fell in love with the pygmy octopus at the LFS for $25. I obviously can't put it mainly in the tank with all the corals and fish. So i was thinking is it possible to buy like a 1-1.5 gallon acclimation tank that is acrylic, with small holes, a lid, put some sand, tiny live rock, and maybe some zoas, and hang it on the side inside the tank. And keep him in there. He is about 2 inches (3 tops) from head to end of tentacles. I mean is it possible AT ALL to keep it in the tank itself? Will he 100% escape guaranteed?

They are very smart creatures.... Wouldn't put it past an octopus to figure something out.

So what're you saying, the main tank idea is a no go, but what about the acclimation tank?

If I am not mistaken, he would need his own tank specially designed around him. Wouldn't be right keeping him in such a small enclosed space.

If it can fit it's beak through and crevices the body easily will slip through.

But it is 100% guaranteed it will get out of my hoodless 28

Out of curiosity what is the minimum tank size for a pygmy octopus?

not a box meant to hold a fish for an hour at most, that is for sure.

op, an octopus is a specialty pet. if you dont want to spend money on a true set up for it, dont buy it. you wouldnt get a great dane and expect it to live in a studio apartment, dont do the same with the octopus.

they are extremely smart and NEED stimulation, even in a full reef tank.

I know the box is small for one. I read for the average octopus you require at least a 55 gallon tank and for a dwarf it around 10 gallon minimum for a single one. I just want to confirm this, don't want to spread wrong information

Go on reefcentral.com they have a cephalopods forum. Any octopus can fit through any hole there beak fits through. Also pygmy octopus don't live very long maybe a couple months to maybe a year or more with good care.

Octo was about golf ball size at the body , tube was just big enough to stick a bic pen inside

Sadly he was killed by a tube nem not long after

At an aquarium they had issues with animals missing out of tanks when they came to work in the morning, they set a camera up and found the octopus was climbing out of its tank, going to the tank of desired food eating it and returning to its tank.

So how do people even keep them honestly?

If I set a specific tank up, I would get sacked, have no wife etc, and think I would spend my life nose to glass....

And.....? I fail to see the problem

Well to be fair I have been trying yo get the sack lol

Lol, i hear ya, so its a definite 100% guarantee it will crawl out of my hoodless jbj 28, like no doubt
