Thanks. Thought I would do something different. I dont see many monti tanks these days. The hardest part was finding the damn things. You would think that something so common would be easy to locate...but nobody carries plain old green and orange monti's anymore. Guess I am stuck in the 90's

The only change/addition will be a group of schooling/shoaling goby's. The ones I am wanting for don't seem to be available in the heat of the summer.

Anyway... corals are stocked and the tank is running on autopilot. So...now its just watch it become a forest of Digits. Will be interesting to see how it turns out.

I received my screen top from Smiz yesterday. He did a incredible job and trying not to sound like an arrogant dick, that's quite a compliment from me .... I am one picky old SOB that is never happy. Checking the PAR reduction on the sandbed without the top I had 220 and with the screen I get 190-200. I decided to leave my LED as it is for right now because I sometimes think I am right on the edge of to much light for the corals that are up top. Can always increase the output if needed, only running at 55% now. Check out his thread for better pics of this and his other creations.

p.s. The screen is dead straight and tight. The small hump in the lower right corner, right above the red digit is an illusion caused by the shooting thru the glass and acrylic.

Nice looking lid. I don't see any hump, illusory or otherwise. You better get your eyes checked... :D

I am very happy you like the lid! And I am super excited to see all these sticks grow up! Tank looks amazing. I am thinking of a changing around my tank to a goby theme as well, love those fish!

That's sweet, like the rockwork! How are the Reef Flakes working out with the gobies? I'm looking to get some (reef flakes) and still on the fence about which grain size to purchase. Also, love the Setosa, arguably one of my favorite monti's just for the fact it's a mystery how it will grow! Lol. They're also super bright!

I tried the Miniflakes on my last tank and it was a mistake for the amount of flow I had. The stuff was much finer than I expected and blew around like mad. Had to remove it. Using the regular Reef Flakes now and its just right for me. Fine enough to look OK and I can really crank up my MP without creating a storm. The new Mesoflakes might be all right if you are wanting something as small as possible and still not blow around. If it was available when I was setting up, might have given it a try. But..since I haven't seen or used the Mesoflakes I really cant comment.

My gobies I have dont care about the sand. They are hoppers, not diggers. Whats interesting is that my Reefflakes don't seem to compact like other substrates I've used, stays really soft and loose to the touch. So....any digging type critters should be happy.

Thanks, I was debating between the meso & the reef flakes that you have, looks like either would prob work. The meso flakes aren't that much smaller, so I might give them a try.

What kind of shoaling goby are you looking for?

Have my eye out for a couple of Eviota species that I think may be near impossible to obtain, but I am also looking at some Blue Line Flag Tails (Trimma Tevegae). I had a small group years ago and I really liked them. I am pretty sure that they will start showing up this fall, they have in the past. This is what I will probably end up with.

My fall back is a group of ORA's Masked Gobies. They do hang out in groups but I wouldn't call them shoaling/schooling and they are not the most colorful little guys around. What I do like is they are aquacultured.

I located some Blue Line Flag Tails (Trimma Tevegae). I want at least six and the best price my guy could give me was $70 a piece! Hummm....I am not sure I will spend over $400 on a group of fish that have a lifespan of 3 years tops. Last ones I had (years ago) cost MUCH less but slowly died off after 18 months or so.
