New Birdsnest!

My Dad was cleaning his tank and accidentally broke a little centimeter piece off of his thin branched birdsnest (no clue what it's technically called...it's not the thick branching, that's for sure), so we took some epoxy and glued it to the highest rock in my tank. Hopefully it'll keep growing! It was pretty mad at us for a couple of hours but here's a pic of how it is doing now:

Still trying to find a place for the wave maker so the birdsnest gets enough flow...I'll mess around with it tomorrow!

it looks a lot like a green stylophora to me as apposed to a birds nest. They are also called cats paw corals. Google green stylophora and birds nest and see which one the mother colony looks closest too! Both are very cool corals. If it is a stylophora it will grow slower than a birds nest.

This is what the mother colony looks like:

(Not my picture, and not the actual colony, but it's what the mother looks like. It's still a small frag actually, just an unfortunate accident)

What does the ORA stand for?

So...they're the only ones to sell these birdsnests, or something? Or maybe they're the first ones to sell them..?

Yours could be from ORA. Might not be. Who knows now. But people typically just call them that since they came into the hobby from ORA.

Birdsnest is really fragile, when I had it in my tank I broke off pieces of it from time to time when cleanin the tank, it happens. Mine for some reason grows SO fast in my tank and I just don't get it, I had to frag both colonies almost bi-weekly and it was still taking over my tank, finally I just traded it in to my LFS because it was too much.

I'd be OK with that kind of growth! Did you have other SPS coral in the tank or just birdsnest?

I don't have any other SPS coral for now, once I'm home I'm going to get some SPS, not sure what kind specifically but I'm leaning towards something blue in color.

Just when I thought I had removed ALL the birdsnest before I deployed I guess a small piece got stuck in my rock and now I have another colony growing like crazy......UGH!
