chabooky386
I recently got some old rock & I want to clean it with the mixture. But the only room I will have is to leave about 200 pounds with a rock outside. I have a water tub but it has no lid. I was going to circulate it with some pumps but I live in Texas and was wondering if the sun would have any effect? Link to comment
Benny314
I've used water and vinegar to clean equipment (running your skimmer in a bucket of it does wonders), not sure about using it on rock. Surly vinegar would continue to leach for a while and cause PH problems etc. However I wouldn't of thought much would grow in a vinegar solution even if it was getting great sunlight. What about an acid dip, you only need to dip the rock a few minutes and then wash it off with a jet wash or something similar, just make sure you don't make the acid bath to strong as it will dissolve your rock in no time. chabooky386
I don't have a skimmer. I was wondering if I left my tub outside would it be prone to growing algae with the sun beaming on it? Link to comment
Benny314
I'd mentioned a skimmer in regards to using water and vinegar to clean it. Sorry if this has caused confusion. As I said I doubt much would grow in a vinegar solution. Alternatively you could always pull a tarpaulin over the container to keep the sun off it? Link to comment

seabass
The rock would quickly neutralize the acid in the vinegar. Some people use 1:20 solution of muriatic acid, or even bleach (both can be fairly dangerous to work with). A hose and a brush is a good place to start. Afterward, you could cure it in saltwater. I'd seed it with Dr.Tim's One and Only nitrifying bacteria. Link to comment
