Weird marine Biotope/environment?

So I'm at Sanibel and am VERY confused. There's this huge patch of mangroves a couple hundred meters off the ocean. But in this (salt water) area palm trees and crabs also live...

So what the heck is this? Palms like salt water?

Are you sure it's saltwater? There's freshwater and lands crabs

Yeah... Didn't bring my Refractometer but there's marine hermits/snails... With the fancy shells. Tiger eye, lightning whelks, & notes

The rain isn't saltwater harold :P

Yeah IK! But it connects to the ocean at points so I've heard

I don't see any true palm trees there.

Just some coconut palms

Dip your hand in do the good ol taste test to check

Yessir. I do it often enough with my tank, may as well taste the water wherever I go! Ill try this afternoon haha.

Right now at high tide the waves are breaking like 5 feet away from the area...

Being as close to the ocean all of those plants are adapted to salt so it's not unusual but still pretty neat to see these type of trees grow

Yeah I really like it.

Sanibel is amazing. There are hundreds of brittle stars, sand dollars, snails, crabs, and Urchins right on the water line. Im like a kid in a candy store haha
