Bubble help!

I am cycling my 30 gal rimless and I am getting a lot of bubbles from the pumps(has 2 pumps). I was also getting some where the over flow from the skimmer was running into the water. I put in a piece of filter pad and it seemed to help with the skimmer. When I run the wave maker on 30 seconds there are no bubbles but with both pumps on full the bubbles are bad. Any ideas?

What skimmer? What level is the water at in the rear chambers with the pumps on full?

I have a jbj sk-45 skimmer. The water in the rear chamber seems to be just fine IMO because it is running through them and just not over filled with water. I tried to upload some pictures but it won't let me.

When you run the pumps simultaneously, it lowers the level in the rear chambers and is causing the micro bubbles since the skimmer is sucking air.

I recommend ditching the wave maker and using both pumps at once. You need the filtration IMO for the RL-45!

So just put both on, and then raise the level in the rear chamber to where you like! :)

When I run both pumps the water level is fine, when I run the wave maker the water rises in the rear chambers since it has 2 overflows and i'm running just one pump. I wish I could figure out why it won't let me up load pictures because that it would be easier for me to try and explain IMO.

Right. So issue would be solved if you just left both pumps on, no?

Use PhotoBucket. Upload picture, copy IMG link, and paste here :)

Upload a video to YouTube and post it?

Your issue is micro bubbles when the pumps are running?

Does this issue still happen with NO skimmer running? I so, air is getting in through a bad connection somewhere

I agree with Harryjsinger. I would add more water to raise the water level in the rear then give the pumps a shake to release any leftover bubbles. I tried running both my pumps and had to raise the water lever considerably to compensate for the added input back to the DT. I however now dont run both pumps as when I did it raised my temp to 83. One pump at a time switching every 6 min my temp is 79.

I hope this link works. In the video I am running the wave maker every 30 seconds and it just seems to be the one pump making the bubbles. I've taken the pumps apart and they are both identical.

Where the holes are drilled in the back the one is higher and I'm thinking the return is not low enough in the water and that is what is making the bubbles.

My sk45 made a TON of micro-bubbles. I've been running both pumps on full in my JBJ 30 RL since day one... no bubbles until this past week when I added the Sk45. I let that skimmer run for 48 hours and the bubbles never subsided. I didn't think to adjust the pumps, though. I replaced the skimmer with a Cad-Lights PLS-50 Elite (had to remove a media tray to make it fit in the JBJ 30RL). I got a few bubbles once it was installed but by the next morning they were all gone.

well I guess it is time to get another skimmer!

That's a hell of a lot of bubbles, and they're not that small, are you 100% sure that second pump isn't creating a vortex and sucking air? Can you do a video of the rear chambers, can you see in the back or is it top down only?

"one pump making the bubbles" Just as benny suggested If it is one of the pumps creating micro bubbles it means air is getting into the line somewhere. Turn off the skimmer and run both the pumps, is there still bubbles? If so you know its coming from either of the pumps, try running each individually and see what you get, you should be able to weed out what pump is taking in air, in that case secure the tubing on that pump. If it only occurs with both then you probably are sucking in to much water at once containing air pockets, meaning you need to raise the water level a tad.
