One or Two MP40's for 36x20x20?

Never overkill haha.

I have a single MP40QD on a 27x21x19 tank and it can't get past 40% without lifting the sand bed.

Maybe two MP10wQDs would be better? Then you could use counter sync on like 80%.

MP40s are surprisingly large, probably 3x the size of a MP10

Interesting. Well, running it on a lower speed doesn't bother me since that's less stress to the equipment.

Asking because I already have the 2 MP40's. Definitely know about the size difference, my MP10 looks like a toy next to the MP40.

Oh well the dual MP40s would be awesome IF they were the wireless versions (You can buy the RF module for pretty cheap) so you could access tide swell and other modes I think

I think a single MP40 would be more than enough power. I have a similar sized tank and was looking into this as well. I only wanted a single power head or at least attempt to stay to one. Since you have the MP40's you probably know the answer.

I wanted to try the Gyre XF-130 before the MP40 though. The Gyre 130 has less flow than the MP40 but still more than enough for our size tanks. The main reason I went with the Gyre is the wider flow pattern/coverage. I actually just pulled the trigger a few minutes ago and will be here Friday... I couldn't find it in stock locally.

They're both wireless.

Let me know how the Gyre works out for you. My tank won't be set up until September. If I truly only need 1, I'd love to sell my other one and use the money towards a dosing unit.

Would be pretty high flow with just one. AS I said, I have 29x21x19 and keep it between 20 and 40%

Update: Gyre 130 Installed

Definitely has full coverage of my tank and a lot of flow. I am still playing with different layouts and configurations though. Right now I have it horizontally on the side, 4" from the top, at 100%, pulsing at I think .5 second intervals and getting some sand flurries all around the tank.

I tried it first vertically and at 60% was creating bare spots in the bed from where I had vents pointed. I will definitely try this again to play with positioning.

Other notes...

  1. It was a little audible at first but quieted down very quickly. At 100% it is completely silent.
  2. It has a very nice foot print.
  3. Flow and coverage is as good or better than my two Jebao RW-8s.

I'll see if I can upload a video to give an example. Overall, extremely happy...
