aimeeross
So I have researched for days and am not finding anything applicable, all threads and discussions appear to be about people who have just added a starfish not one they have had for a long time so I am at a loss! I need help with my blue starfish, I have had him for over a year and a half and not a spec of trouble, always eating, wandering and standing on everyone. About a week and a half ago he had a feeding frenzy on a new piece of coral rock. Anyway he appears to be in a coma, no disintegration at all, looks as normal but has moved all of 10cms up the glass then back down to the sand since then. I see his tube feet out every now and then but he's definitely not moving around like normal. What if anything do I do for him? Link to comment
Matteo
no idea honestly! I have red linkia starfish he eats and roams. How long have you had yours? Link to comment
Bingo1213
Sometimes they will suddenly starve out right around a year to a year and a half. Since we cannot supply them with their natural food source they don't always do well in our closed loop systems. Not sure if this is the case with yours but its a thought. Some people try target feeding them with a pipet but it doesnt always work. Link to comment
patback
Linkia are one of those animals best left in the ocean. Link to comment
aimeeross
Thanks for the responses! I have had him for 14 months now, he looks like he has a small patch of skin missing but he's just started re arranging himself on the sand again, I'm stumped! If he was going to die I thought he would have gotten worse by now. If he was in more active I'd try re-home him with someone with a larger food source but that would probably finish him off if he isn't already headed that way I am aware of their abysmal survival rates and will be the first to admit it was one of my want purchases instead of one of my well researched and thought out ones. The poor guy I just don't know what to do for him! Link to comment
ndrobey
It is possible that he is just digesting that big meal. Starfish digestion is slow. Link to comment
aimeeross
HE WOKE UP! 3 weeks of not a flicker of movement then all of a sudden up and zooming again! Strange strange starfish! Link to comment
ndrobey
Can you figure out what was on that coral rock that he liked to eat? It might be its best food source and might help the Linkia survival rate if it could be cultivated. Link to comment
