testing

I have 5 small frags of LPS in my 5 gallon nano. Tank has been running since Dec 2014 I am wanting to know if I should be testing my Cal,Alk,Mag on a regular basis or is just my weekly water changes okay for these corals?

The other corals in the tank are softies plus my purple whip sea fan, only thing new in the tank is 2 chalice frags and 1 Acan frag that have been in the tank for a month now.

Really depends on what salt mix you use and the percent change out. Also seems like a lot of critters for a small tank, but hey if it works keep going.

I am using Instant Ocean Salt. I do plan on keeping the once Chalice for sure as I have been waiting for this one for quite some time, and the Acan Lord I just love it never had one before but its small at this point. I am not sure about the rest of the chalices as they grow I might not keep them depending on their colors.

This will sound bizarre to you but each week I do 16 cup water change, I have everything measured out this way for myself so its equivalent to 2 juice jugs not quite full.

So that is about a 20% change out. I don't think that you will need to dose anything. If you keep up with it I think you will be fine. If you have your water tested and find things are low, you could switch to another slat mix like IO Reef Crystals.

Good Luck!
