AIO Tank

Hey everyone!

Pretty new to this forum, currently running a 14 gallon biocube and am thinking about tearing it down and building up again from either a Nuvo 10 or cadlights 8. Would like to get some opinions on the choices and maybe even some pics too! And my part b questions is with me transferring some of the live rock and maybe a adding a different piece or too and some new sand, will that quick off any cycle? Thanks so much in advance!

As to part b, if it is nice live rock you should have no cycle. I just did what you described except I went from a 10g to a 20g. The 10 was crammed tight with rock that was well established. I set up the 20, matched parameters, and moved the rock into it. It was just across the room, so there was no die off at all. All the hermits and snails just got plunked right in too. No cycle at all. Nothing died. However, that might not be the case if the new rock has any organic matter it will cause a bit of a cycle. Dry rock may leach things that are not desired.

My move was bare bottom to bare bottom. If you are going with sand, the old stuff stays behind. Get new sand and rinse the hell out of it. I put mine in a bucket and hit it with a garden hose (I have very good tap water, YMMV) and rinse until it is absolutely clear. I then drain and fill up the bucket with RODI then fresh salty water. I swirl each around a bit and dump. I then use the sand in the new tank. Save a half cup scoop of your old sand and place it in with the new to help seed it (not necessary, the rock with seed it, but it's what I do).

If the tank is going in the same spot, just set up bucket or tub to hold the rock while you get the tank ready. Just make sure to match parameters in the tub just like you would with the new tank.

if I were you in the same position and wanted to move to that small of a tank keeping AIO, I would go with a picO aquarium. It's not because Chris is a sponsor of this forum, or even the fact he has a ton of followers that vouch for his quality, Its because of the layout.

The picO AlO false wall is designed in a way that allows for water level adjustment, and forces the water through a series of chambers and built in media baskets without allowing water to stray like in other AIO tanks. I was very impressed with the design in comparison to others as it reflects a refugium acting as a water processing facility closer than any of the other false wall designs i have seen.
