Reactor help

Currently running gfo/carbon on brs dual reactor for my 45 mix reef. Also have fuge with cheato. About to get a IM intank reactor and was think biopellets. Yat or nay? Anything else I can tumble?

Are you having Nitrates issues? Not sure why you want to add the biopellets reactor I would first start tracking down the source of the Nitrates but the Cheato should be considered essential.

Bio-pellets are difficult and possibly dangerous to your tank if misused.. In my opinion they should not be used as preventative maintenance- because if your nitrates are really that high, you should figure out why and fix it rather than try to "smother the evidence"

I'm going to use bio pellets on my 120, you also have to reply on heavy skimming with an oversized skimmer.

alright I won't use them. I do not have a nitrate or phosphate issue. I just always push my bio load. Currently have 1 small goldstripe maroon clown and a good sized Lemon Peel Angel. So should I just hold off on using the reactor? Any idea of what I could use the extra reactor for?

Trying to go after more filtration just to be be pulling something else out of the water is not doing you any favors and will simply just cost you more money and time in maintenance. The "Less" Mechanical filtration & more biological filtration you can acquire makes for a more sustainable reef. Intentionally overstocking your bio-load is going to deliberately disrupt any sort of balance, and if your simply relying on mechanical filtration its going to be a battle to keep everything in check opposing the key of this hobby "Stability"

 

You track your progress and find problems, if you cant solve the problem in a natural manor (i.e Cleanup crew, Macroalgae, Less feeding) you then look at something that can assist you such as a reactor. If you like lots of fish then I suggest saving your money and getting a larger tank to hold those fish. If you choose to cram them all into a small space you will have territory, aggression, stress, nitrate, and phosphate issues to address. The only effective thing I can suggest other than increasing your tank size, increase your Skimmer size and double or triple out the water changes.

So I found three little chromis and a pair of cardinals and couldn't be happier. The smaller schooling fish make the tank look so much bigger and really give it a reef feel. Exodus I completely appreciate your input and will monitor and see how things go. Also I got rid of the lemon peel. Wouldn't stop picking at corals. If I had another fish it will most likely be a wrasse. I have had good results with bioloads before but am holding off to see how everything does

Unless your fuge is 20g+ full of macro, it's not doing much exporting nutrients. Good for pods add such, but really not doing much else. BP reactors are a lot more effective in reducing nitrate and phosphate, and easier than vodka dosing. Just do your research on it, and I bet you'll love it.

The reef store by me has a 40 g frag tank which is packed with corals and smaller sized rock and he has a tang some small wrasse's and a couple clowns in there and the seem happier than any fish I've ever seen. I also see reef tanks of 75-90 g that are loaded with fish and everything seems totally cool. I really don't get the whole only put a couple fish thing. If you find fish that can get along and your filtration can handle the load what's the problem?

I ask around for people using biopellet in IM minimax reactor for a 20 gallon tank. Since nobody replied I guess not a lot of people are running biopellet in nano. I started running pellets for a week now and dose mb7. So far no negative impacts have been observed.

I run brs biopellets in my IM fusion 30L, 40, and 10.

 

When I had a Nuvo24, I had a HUGE dino break out, and the only thing that got rid of them was Biopellets, KZ coral snow, and KZ zeobak. Now all my tanks run with these.
