PicoSavvy
So I guess we need you to strap your vibrator onto your Pico and see how it does? (Just teasing. I agree regarding the many variables of the trucks movement possibly having an effect on the tank)Maybe I will ask my ex-girlfriend to let me borrow her vibrator and see if it has any effect on a pico. Also does sound have any effect on saltwater animal I don't know how well insulated his cab is from sound. This is a very unique setup a mobile pico. Is it possible? Yes anything is possible if you put your head to it.Here are some helpful thread that may give you some ideas. kylhcky
Some movement is healthy in our tank. But I don't know how healthy constant movement is, all he had to do is turn on the engine and it like strapping a vibrator from a controller to the tank. I maybe over thanking it but I have very little information on mobile tank to compare to if it's an air ride cab then you really have nothing to worry about as far as those higher frequency vibrations go Link to comment
PicoSavvy
if it's an air ride cab then you really have nothing to worry about as far as those higher frequency vibrations go o ok got it those were the frequency I was talking about I don't know how fish or coral react to them. This material may work for your application (https://www.inventables.com/technologies/shock-absorbing-sheet) This product is a thermoset polyurethane material that combines shock absorption and good memory with vibration damping and isolation properties. It is also a very effective acoustic damper and absorber. It take care of most of the variable mentioned. Link to comment
Mr. Clownfish
I guess and little clarification on the truck is in order. Its a brand new 2016 Kenworth truck so as far as air ride and cab insulation goes I'm covered. It will have an APU so temperature will not be an issue(at least I don't think it will be). Either way I'm going for it. So here is the plan so far... ~ I found a really nice 1 gallon jar from Wal-Mart. Nothing to fancy but it should do the job. ~ I went and bought the smallest heater for a betta tank I could find. 6watts should be perfect for the 1 gallon and it says it should keep it between 75-78 degrees. ~ Got some air stones, air line and the air pump all dug out my random fish stuff box. ~ The first step was to cut out the center of the lid. It didn't turn out as good as I had hopped but not to bad. Then I cut out a round sheet of acrylic to fit inside the lid. then I used DAP silicone to seal the clear top to the lid for light. Then I drilled a small hole in the center of the lid for an air return line. I'll be pumping air in so I need and exit for it. I put it high enough that water should not get thru it and pumped out. ~ next I drilled the Jar on the back side for the heater and the air line to be plumbed thru. Then I silicone it all up so that we're not leaking water from the back. The silicone has been drying for a couple days now and I put water in it this morning to test for leaks and make sure the heater keeps up. providing I have no leaks we should be good to go. ~ Providing I don't have any leaks, my next step is to build a box for this thing to sit in. Something that I can mount the light to the top and seal everything in on the side. Just leave me enough to view from the front. Then under the box create a soft rubber cushion to absorb any shock. Then I'll build a shelf inside the truck that I can mount the box and my microwave too. So far this seems like it might work. My only real question at the moment is do you think these lights will be enough for zoas, mushrooms, and maybe a small hammer frag that the sexy shrimp likes to hang out on? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Authentic-BeamsWork-Super-Bright-33-LED-light-30-45cm-aquarium-marine-fresh-tank-/251899441179?hash=item3aa660701b Ill post some pics later tonight when I get home. evanski
I would recommend you PM Brandon (brandon429) of the decade-old pico jar build. The guy knows all you need to know about this. He feeds like a maniac and does 100% water changes weekly. Can't imagine this undertaking without talking with him. Link to comment
chemikalzsky
I think that light might be a little much. You might get deep fried mushrooms and shrimp.. Hehe! This is the light that I have on my 1/2 gallon bowl and it seems to be great for my mushrooms, Duncan, zoas, and shrimp I have in there. It stays pretty cool and the blue is amazing. http://www.wave-point.com 6" 12w Super Blue & 10000k Daylight Blade HO LED with Dual on/off switch 6x Super Blue 6x 10,000k Daylight 80555014068 Link to comment

Mr. Clownfish
So I came home from work last night and there was a puddle of water on the kitchen counter. So I'm a little disappointed that it didn't seal up as good as I hoped it would. So after much discussion and uncertainty on what the future hold I have decided to put this project on hold until we are in the truck and I can find a better option for a jar or container to put this into. So for now this plan is on hold.... Link to comment
chemikalzsky
Oh no! I was super excited about your little project. Is there a way we might be able to talk you back into it? Maybe use the lid as a place for the heater and air pump to go through instead of drilling through the jar? Use some rubber grommets to try to seal the hole? Link to comment
