truels2
I currently have 2 par38 LED bulbs over my 16g from reefled.ca . I wanted to come up with an inexpensive way to add an actinic light to the tank so my corals will pop when I start to add them . What's the best way to go about doing this ? Link to comment
Exodus
The only true actinic is T5 Actinic bulbs, otherwise it will be a fixture with Blue/Royal Blue LED's, you might want to consider a small cheap fixture (How big is your tank?) there are several older fixtures out there that only had whites and blues you could pick up used. truels2
only a small 16 g bow front. My par38s do have some blue to them but im not sure if it will be enough to make corals pop. Link to comment

Exodus
Well if it's only 16g bow front, does it have a hood? How are the par bulbs mounted, I assume they are not in use or you just don't have corals yet? A picture of the current setup would be helpful to get an idea of what not only might be helpful but will not be an eyesore. Link to comment
jedimasterben
What makes you think you don't already have 'actinic' light? Link to comment

Please, everyone knows the VHO Actinic 03 is the one true actinic. /s I'll put my LED actinic channels against any T5 or VHO actinic set up. If you really want something for sunrise/sunset color pop, you can pick up any of the variety of royal blue LED strips. If you just want something that'll light up some fluorescent proteins before the main lights go on, you can go with stunner strips or currents royal blue strips. If you want good ones look into dave's nanobox beams or a buildmyled actinic strip. My guess is that with your choice of PAR38s, you'd rather go with cheaper option (they're fine, but they are more of a budget option). Do you have the PAR38 36W bulbs? Your corals will look fine with just them on. Only add these little supplements if you want the sunrise/sunset effect. Link to comment

Matteo
+1 on actinic led strip. They also make actinic par38 bulbs you could place in the middle? Link to comment
