HI, so I have a JBJ 28 Intermediate that is now rimless, I added a Kessil A160WE light, i run filter floss, chemi pure elite, and purigen. I want to buy the InTank media basket, but already bought the 6.5 oz bag of chemi pure, will it fir fine, or is it too small? Or should i go and buy the 11 oz, or will that black too much flow? I have a bunch of higher end zoas, 2 massive GBTA, a cynarina, dragon soul favia, and abunch of other softies and LPS. Will upgrading the media basket help filtration and help get rid of my rapid algae growth? I get tiny green dot and brown patch algae that grows literally like overnight. So what else should i buy to stop and help that. Thanks.

IMO you need a GFO reactor, maybe the BRS mini reactor if you want to stop the algae issues. You aren't feeding too much?

But the InTank baskets are great- I just got one for my JBJ 28 and it's a HUGE upgrade

I also dont have a sump, or actually any room at all around my tank and stand, so how would i hook that up?

What does the BRS help do?

BRS reactor lets you use a LOT of chemical filteration. You can put in GFO (phosphate absorber), carbon, etc.

Look up media reactor to see more information

The reactor goes in the stand. A pump in your rear chamber pumps water down through the reactor, and then the water goes back to your rear chamber via another tube

I would like to do that but i cant be doing all that, theres literally no room for anything but inside the tank lol, any dosing or special kind of cleaning crew that would get rid of the algae? The green dots are hard as coraline.

Green dots can be removed with a razor or flipper magnet.

Smiz is right, the IM desktop reactor is a great choice since it fits in the back.

What size chemi pure elite should I run in the intank basket, 6.5 seems to small, but the 11 seems like it would block too much flow, what's your opinions

My question for you is - do you plan to run GFO in the reactor and then carbon stand alone in a rack?

I have run gfo/carbon mixed in an external BRS rector for 4 years and I am just now switching to a HOB aq70 and throwing it all in a media bag.

If you aren't running gfo stand alone, you aren't tumbling the media, so you are essentially doing the same thing with a reactor that you would do by putting it in a bag and forcing water over it through the flow in a media rack. The difference is the reactor is another piece of equipment, another pump, more power draw, something else that can break, etc.

I can say that I never needed to tumble GFO for effectiveness, don't have any real algae issues outside of some bubble algae which I am pretty sure feeds off my soul, not phosphates =)

After seeing tanks that look great with nothing more than a HOB fuge (no skimmer etc) I came to the realization that I was putting way too much value on equipment for small tanks =)
