McCune
i have been running an ecotech radion on my cadlight 50 long for over a year. I am thinking about switching to an ATI t5 unit instead. I love the shimmer effect of the LED but I am getting sick of the shadowing. I don'y keep SPS, i have LPS lots of Zoas and nems. Which light do you think? Link to comment

The slight shadowing isn't a big deal in terms of the health of LPS or zoas, but if you don't like it I guess you could change. I love my Radion though.. With wife angle lenses most of the shadowing is eliminated, plus you get a lot of control. Also consider the problems with T5s; you have to change them frequently, bulb combinations, high wattage compared to LEDs, etc Link to comment
kirbaay
Or you could always supplement with T5's and keep the LED's Link to comment

But OP, if you haven't already, see if you can get some wide angle lenses for the radion and what kind of difference they make. If you already have that or it still isn't enough then you can either supplement the Radion fixture or just get a whole new one lighting setup. I think you would be fine with the 4 bulb but I would probably get the 6 bulb just in case. You can always dim it or simply remove a few bulbs if it turns out to be too much light. Link to comment

Matteo
1 radion over a 50 gallon long is the reason for the shadowing. I bet if you got a second one that would go away. Link to comment

Of course it would but it's still only a 36" tank with corals that are not very demanding when it comes to light. Wide angle lenses on the Radion should help a lot but we don't really know how the rocks are set up which play a huge role as well. Link to comment

McCune
I have the wide angle lens"s on there and it did make a big Difference from the standard lenses. Running 2 radions would be silly on the size tank I would fry everything in there. I am liking the idea of maybe a retro or an ati that nanobox works some magic on Link to comment
McCune
So now I am thinking I'll keep the radion and build a floating canopy to mount it in with some t5 lights as well. Where is the best place to get a t5 retro kit. Should I do 2 t5 or 4 t5 with the radion in the middle Link to comment

Basically a sexy fixture with a center mount for the Radion AND two (or 4) T5s! http://reefbuilders.com/2014/09/10/triton-aquatics-hybrid-t5-led-invites-bring-lights/ Link to comment
Horerczy
Brs has a got t5 retro kit available. Though I would probably change the ballasts out for HEPGroup ballasts. I fail to see how running two radions would fry everything in the tank since they have the ability to be dimmed. Wait. Though it does say they will entertain requests for smaller lengths. Link to comment
