I just bought one of the 5w ones off amazon.. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002ZCCJ1E?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

Interested to see how it works, I bought one of these way back when when I originally started my tank.

The thing literally blew out in my tank- glass bulb exploded. Did not last long.

Looks like amazon reviews say similar. Pretty sure it is the exact same one they sell on the inTank site for the 5w one which I have read others having good luck with so it might just be hit or miss.

Will get here saturday =P

Really want a fuge light that isnt some ugly obtrusive thing sitting ontop of the back of the tank. Surprised there arent other submersible light strips etc people use.

Sweet. Please let me know if you have any luck with it. You can buy underwater led strips. The problem is finding one that's not sold by the 100' roll and the right temp.

Halogen runs pretty hot 10W is hot.

Here is an idea I have.. see what you think,

use a test tube or gut out an old heater that has glass case on it.

put in a 194 wedge style automotive LED bulb, most of these are 6000-7000k perfect for growing macros.

It would draw about 1-3 watts. They are so bright you can't really stare at it.

The glass tube good enough for heater should be good enough to handle the LED heat, plus you can use the heaters suction cup.

Interesting idea. If I knew how to wire one of those it would be worth trying. Could use a test tube + rubber stopper w/ a hole in it. Run wire through hole and fill with silicone to seal it.

TBH a commercial light like that for nano fuges would be awesome.

My original thought was something along the lines of a current usa trulumen strip in a capped acrylic tube.

But that is a pretty expensive light for something that doesn't really need that much lighting.

Anyhow, I got my 5w today.

As I mentioned, I had bad luck with this type of light before. Think the seal on them can be hit or miss.

I put a bead of silicone sealer around the seal of the glass to help prevent any issue with the things normal seal. If others get a 5w or 10w id recommend some silicone to enhance the seal as well. Interested to see how long it works.
