fish12345
I have a standard 29 gallon tank with a 29 gallon sump underneath. Total water volume is 49ish gallons. I have a skimmer and a fuge and 45ish lbs of live rock and tank turnover of 1200 gph. I also have a 2ish inch sand bed. I would like to add: 1 yellow clown goby 1 yellow watchman goby 1 firefish 2 oscillarous clowns In this order Mayhaps a blenny sometime down the road. Will I have trouble with aggression/compatibility with this selection? (For the record the tank hasn't been set up yet, should be circulating water on August 1.) Link to comment
kirbaay
The stocking list looks great! the only thing i could maybe see a problem with is the 2 gobys. Since they will both be on the bottom area of your tank and on the rocks they might compete for space. Obviously the watchman goby will dominate the yellow clown. I will say that the watchman goby is going to burrow in your sand bed and make it how he pleases. So if you dont mind that then I would say go ahead with all of these guys you will be fine! fish12345
I have read that the clown goby will spend most of its time perched on the rocks while the watchman would burrow and spend most of the time in the sand. I figured because of this they would leave each other alone. Link to comment
lkoechle
I think you would be fine with the two gobies. BUT the clown goby may eat acropora. Its what they eat in the wild. I had one that left them alone and then one that didn't. So food for thought when determining fish and coral combinations Link to comment

fish12345
Any thoughts on a flame angel instead of the firefish and blenny? Link to comment
NYfishies
Tank is too small for a flame I would say. If you get a Pistol Shrimp to pair with the Watchman they will never leave the sand bed and you will have new burrows on a daily basis. I love this about my pair. Best sand stirrers EVER. It is also very cool to come home to new landscape each day. Just watch for frags in the sand bed or else the shrimp will use to build his tunnels. The Clown Goby will likely perch on your rock and coral. I keep mine in a Zoa's only garden and he loves to perch on and in between them. He is so small they do not even close. Great fish. Finicky eater at the beginning though so be careful. I only have experience with Helfirchi Firefish and it is my final determination that they do not belong in captivity. Plenty of people keep regular firefish so i cannot speak on those and their survive-ability in our glass cages. The clowns will be your most aggressive fishies, but shouldn't bother the others as long as you put in last. Link to comment

Some say they do well and others say the 29 is just too small. How loud are pistol shrimp? The tank is in my bedroom and I have heard they will click constantly and that would keep me up. NYfishies
When he snaps you will hear it from another room for sure, but he only snaps a few times a day and I rarely hear him snap when the lights are out. I would not be concerned about the snap and instead whether you are ok with your sand bed being turned over multiple times a day. Link to comment

NYfishies
I consider it to be a very good thing, but others might find it to be disturbing to their aquascape. Link to comment
joy13
The clowns may mess with your lps to the point of damaging them. If you get a pistol shrimp for your goby be prepared to uncover and dig around in the sand for any corals that it manages to get around. I have just a pistol shrimp now and it has calmed down a bit but I am still finding sand on corals. Your firefish will probably start hiding more once you put your clowns in. Make sure you have lid on your tank firefish are jumpers. The clown goby will perch on any coral it decides to, I have 2 in a 40 gallon they are always out and watching everything they are a favorite of mine. Link to comment
