20x20x12 rimless LIG build....yep another one.

So being the indecisive person I am I recently sold my solana to start a new project. Haven't really gotten much done. The stand is being built at a friends house since he has a garage and a wide selection of tools. So here is the plan, -20x20x12 rimless 3 sided pvc bottom tank. -Elos style stand wrapped in Myriad ribbonwood laminate. - Custom 15x15x15 acrylic sump. -Lighting, not sure yet, maybe a T5/LED build of some sort. For now the stand is almost done, mainly waiting on the laminate and waiting for the glass. Here are a few pics of the stand.

Got the hole cutoutt so I can access the powerstrip.

will definitely keep the pics going as I make progress.

This will probably be the last build for quite some time as my gf is at the end her rope with me. Trying to figure out a really badass aquascape.

Got my glass in today, they goofed and cut me 4 pieces of starfire instead of only 3, which totally has me thinking it'd be a shame to paint the back part of the tank black like I was originally going to.

Unless you're planning to make the tank viewable from all angles (like in the middle of the room), I'd still slap some paint on there. You can always scrape it off with a razor blade, but it'll be really tough to add later once there's water in there. That's just me though.

BTW, I like your dimensions.

Yeah that's a good point man, it'll probably still get painted black with black silicone as I originally intended. Going to do a quick mock up of the glass in a sec and I'll take a pic.

That is a cool stand you built. I am looking to build something similiar. It does not look like you used any 2x4s. Can you share the plans or explain in detail the lumber you used to build this?

Thanks, it's just 3/4" sanded plywood cut into the dimensions of the stand, it's glued and screwed together. There is also top and bottom horizontal braces inside to help it from twisting, even though Im sure it wouldn't twist even without them. Then the top is getting either a single piece of 3/4" or two, and then the bottom inside where the sump will sit on is also 3/4". It's pretty solid for not using any sort of frame.

Made a few adjustments to the stand, I decided to get rid of the power strip as I'm going to be using a controller. Don't mind all the screw holes, they'll be getting filled then the outside is getting laminated. I also sunk the part where the sump will sit down, so far I'm really liking this stand. I also sealed the inside of the stand with caulk and started painting it with kilz. IMG_20150725_153539188_HDR_zpsgbc0n6ou.j. IMG_20150725_153635477_zpstqxpbzrs.jpg

Would like to get some opinions, I'm either going fill in the opening with a full door or, or add vertical trim on each side then add a sunk in door in the middle.

I ordered some adhesive backed black vinyl sheeting for my cube. Turned out great. If you decide you no longer want a black back, just peels right off....now residue left behind. Found it on Amazon .

Decided I didn't want the inside white so I picked up some blue latex paint, think it'll look good with the black laminate on the outside.

I really like polypropylene sumps but I definitely don't have the means to make one so I picked up some 1/4" white and clear acrylic, still need to figure out the sizes for the baffles. But I'm really liking the white and clear.
