Neebles
Anyone know where I can reliably get feeder shrimp? I would prefer marine glass shrimp over ghost shrimp....live aquaria seems to never have any in stock, and my local petsmart who offers ghost shrimp usually doesn't have any in stock either. Any help would be appreciated. Link to comment

Neebles
My local shop does not carry them.... No other shops are within an hour...I have some feelers out on the local boards as I would make the drive. I need someone on the coast to catch and ship me some!!!! Link to comment
Neebles
R2G has some for sale. I actually just saw that. Are they any good? I thought I read to stay away from those guys, or was I mistaken? Link to comment
metrokat
they're fine (IME) with pods and things. I wouldn't order anything serious from them. Communication is hit or miss with them, if you don;t get a tracking #, email repeatedly to get one or it just shows up at the door. Link to comment
Partially Submerged
What do you need the shrimp for? Link to comment
Neebles
What do you need the shrimp for?I need them for my leaf scorpion who only eats live unfortunately I just looked at R2G and they want 60 bucks to ship....that's ridiculous. Link to comment
lkoechle
Have you looked into breeding them? I don't know aanything about breeding shrimp except I hear some freshwater species are easy to propogate. That way you only have to invest once and you'll have constant supply. Here is a thread on RC about breeding feeder shrimp http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=750966 Link to comment

Here is a thread on RC about breeding feeder shrimp http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=750966 I thought about it, but I haven't been able to get a large enough group to get the ball rolling. I can only get maybe 12 at a time locally, and I go through those within a week. I may have to bite the bullet and order a bunch from live aquaria, but it's hard spending probably a dollar each including shipping when I'm used to getting them for like 18 cents. Link to comment
lkoechle
Well, ideally you'd only have to do it once I don't know where you're located, but have you looked at any bait shops? If you're on the coast, they might have some (unlikely given small size, but still possible), or you can collect them yourself if you have a fishing license. Link to comment
Neebles
I'm in Illinois. I may give it a shot. no bait shops locally either. Oh well I may have to bite the bullet and order online Link to comment
Pinner Reef
Might see if any of the LFS have guppies or minnow bait fish. There is a chance of passing along pathogens tho. Link to comment
Felicia
You can get the marine glass shrimp from Florida Pets for a reasonable price. Link to comment

Yeah they do, crustaceans can be gut loaded and won't pass anything nasty so I will stick with those. Good suggestion though. You can get the marine glass shrimp from Florida Pets for a reasonable price. I'll take a look. I may just get a bunch of the freshwater ones at this point as the marine one are apparently a pain in the ass to breed Link to comment
Felicia
Yeah I've just been feeding fw ghost shrimp to my lions. I gut load them with high quality marine flakes and pellets. Link to comment

Seems like a decent price for a monthly shipment. Link to comment
Neebles
So I ended up ordering 85-100 pack of ghosties from live aquaria. Hopefully I will pay attention and pull out the females with eggs when the time comes and see if I can brew up a crew of my own so I don't have to worry about it. Link to comment
Neebles
Well now I'm forkin irritated. Got the shrimp in Tuesday, put them into an established cycled tank, and they are all dead today. What a waste of 80 bucks. They aren't covered by live aquarias guarantee so that's awesome as well. Link to comment
ArabTanker
Not sure if this is any help. But I was breeding a freshwater species of miniature shrimp in highschool. They are called Red Cherry shrimp. Really easy to breed. I started with 10 and ended up with 100+ in a few months while selling some on the side. They constantly breed. Do you think that is an option? Link to comment
spinycheek
I'd use Reefs 2 Go, used them a few times for marine glass shrimp, live mysis and live brine shrimp. Never had a problem. Link to comment
