Kessil a160we

Anyone have any idea what intensity i should be starting my new kessil a160we with? Right now i have it about 8 inches off of the water and peaking at 50% intensity to start? is that too high? can i go higher? what is the highest i should be running these over my 16 gallon mixed reef cube. I know its not an exact science but does anyone have more of a general idea than i do that could give me some input if you have experience with this light or just know a lot about lighting in general? Thanks

Did you purchase the control as well? Only reason I ask is because of the ease of use with it. They have an acclimation setting you could use to get the coral adjusted to the light in a timely manner. I would still start around maybe peaking at 40 and then adding 5% every week.

It really depends on what type and intensity of light the corals have been under for the last month or two.

i do have the controller but dont want to use coral acclimation mode cuz i like the times and ramps i set up myself better. Before i had two true lumen strips and a panorama pro strip all at 100%

my BTA is now lower in the tank, and its tentacles and longer and thinner than usual and i am buggin a little bit that it is because it isnt getting enough light

After reading what you said about your prior lighting and the BTA, I would start at 60% and go up 5% weekly and of course, watch your corals reaction carefully

If your BTA moved lower in the tank, and decreased his bubbles, he's most likely getting too much. I'd drop the intensity .....like between 20 and 30% peak and every other week up it 5%. See how he reacts.

What jack said... I grew sps on the sand bed with my 160 8 inches of the water in a 12 inch tank at 40% max on the intensity. At 50% when I first got it, I bleached nearly everything in the tank then backed down to 30% and raised it 5% every 2 weeks till I found the happy spot

i moved the BTA down because i rescaped. Im not sure what to do because the frogspawns, zoas, and acans look happy and the BTA doesnt exactly look pissed yet just different with the long tentacles. I emailed kessil about it and they told me i should ramp up slowly until eventually im peaking all the way up to at 100% intensity for a few hours everyday

Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason as to why the bta's lose their bubbles. Mine was at the top of my tank and would mostly be bubbled but would also lose them as well, such weird animals. That's before it decided to take a liking to my mp10 lol...

I don't think that Michael said anything about "losing its bubbles" but instead, I thought he said that the tentacles were getting longer and thinner which in any coral is an indication it is trying to reach up to get more light

This is not the case with BTAs. Both of my RBTA go from fully bubbled to long tentacle at random times. My lighting cycle has been the same for months. Neither BTA has moved so they are obviously content. There is no known reason as to why BTA bubble or not. Plenty of theories though.

 

Hopefully cromag will chime in. Anemones are his specialty, and if anyone has some possible ideas it'll be him.

My RBTA is bubbly during the day but long tipoff and somewhat shriveled at night. Is that what you're referring to?
