dcmayes Posted July 14, 2015 Share Posted July 14, 2015 Hello, long time lurker looking for some lighting advice. the title pretty much says it all, im looking for an LED option for my new reefer 170. Being a newer tank i havent seen a whole lot of build threads out there, so ive had limited success in my search so far. im leaning towards these 3 so far: 1) Radion XR30 pro 2) Nano box Duo 3) kessil a360WE 4) any relevant suggestions The appearance of the light is important to me (and my wife *cough*) so that being said cable management and a slim profile are important. also i would like it to have enough jam that i wont have to be overly worried about coral placement (within reason obviously) controllability is also something id like the light to have the bluefish controller for the nano box as well as the kessil seems nice, the reeflink with the ecotech products seems pretty neat too. Im not overly concerned with the price of the fixture within reason, im not spending 2k on lights for this thing but im comfortable around the 1K mark (canadian) lastly the nearest store that sells any of these products is 4+ hours away so seeing them first hand is difficult im mostly limited to youtube forum pics etc. sorry for the long winded ramble but if anyone has any experience with any of these and a similar tank size (24"x 20"x 20") id love to hear from you, thanks! I'm 27x18x19 and the Radion Pro with wide angle lenses is more than enough- I can't take it above 55% or so! Lots of people like the NanoBox and Kessil as well- they're all great options Link to comment

12_egg_Omelette Posted July 14, 2015 Share Posted July 14, 2015 But in all honesty, I would look at the hybrid or the Radion 30 Pro both would be great options and allow you to grow anything. My wife likes a slick look at well. Here is what it looks like on my 12 the Radion. The hybrid would be great for ensuring that you don't have shadowing where the LEDs can't reach, not a problem if you have more than one and can angle them. If you're doing SPS you'll prob notice that some areas that don't get light don't look so hot. Link to comment

I have been emailing with Dave from nano box a bit and he suggested a quad, and made no mention of the hybrid. the only worry i have with the 24" lights is that its going to look akward being the same length as the tank. i know im probably overthinking it but having the fixture the same dimension just seems to me like the light was an after thought or something...im probably just being OCD about this.
