We've gotten the latest Tropic Eden shipment, and the Reef Flakes are back. This shipment also contains the first selection of the new grades of sand.

Tropic Eden in stock now!

AUGUST 1st - We're combining our famous garage sale with our customer appreciation sale to make one GIANT event! We're bringing out all of the overstock, the scratch-and-dent, the clearance and closeouts, and anything on the shelves that needs to move, and we're pricing it to SELL! We'll have sales on dry goods and AMAZING SALES on LIVESTOCK - remember those cheap Flame Angels? They'll be back! More details to come, but if you're within driving distance mark your calendars!

What little I can expand on right now is this: We'll be ordering a stupid number of amazing fish, corals and inverts and we'll be doing some of our crazy lot-pricing on it. We'll have the ridiculously low pricing on everything, so even special orders that come in for the event will be subject to the sale.

There is a lot of merchandise that made the journey from the old shop to the new shop, but it's not going onto these shiny new shelves, per the boss' orders. Some of it is too old and dusty to look presentable. Some is returns, scratch-and-dent, damaged or missing pieces, reconditioned pieces or closed out products from a non-SKU line that we can't electronically inventory. There are all sorts of awesome things around that aren't internet-worthy, but they're begging to be used on a system.

So, we're setting up yard-sale style in the parking lot (or in case of rain just inside the bay doors) with a ton of tables. We're not pre-advertizing what all is going onto the sale tables, because this is a local event only. That means there's no chance to call or email in a request, or reserve an item, and our wholesale customers are also subject to the same rules as everyone else, so everyone gets the same chance to score real deals. It's an honest-to-goodness first come, first served, supplies are limited to the stock on hand the day of the event - and for the lawyers, there are no backorders or rainchecks, blah blah usual exclusions blah blah blah... Now that our tank-raised systems are up, we feel like we're back to offering a full-service LFS for our locals. We're really trying hard to make this the inaugural event at our new location and to reward everyone who chooses to visit.

More details will follow, as they develop!

Well I look forward to it. Haven't been down to the new facility yet. The old store was in my back yard. Keep is updated with a start time please.

Hmm if I were to start over I would Definitely use the 2mm sand or heavier. The live-aragonite I have is too light and doesn't let me ramp up the pumps, and siphoning is tough without losing a bunch of sand

Best sand, thinking of trying one of the new grades

I bought 30lbs of Mesoflakes and Reef Flakes. The mesoflakes are supposedly smaller than the Reef Flakes but I don't see it. I compared the 2 and they look identical in size.

Thanks for the heads up

This batch of Reef Flakes appears to all fall toward the low end of the 3.0 - 3.5mm range listed on the bag. TE lists the largest grain size for each batch in their material, so Reef Flakes shows a 3.5 on their listing, but the grains can fall anywhere within that range - and this time they appear to be about 3.0 - 3.2 mm. You're correct - the difference between 2.7 and 3.0 mm is negligible.

Samuel at TE informed us that the next batch of Reef Flakes should fall into the larger side of the range. Their sorting is not an exact science, so while bags from each batch contain the same assortment of grains, bags from batches that were produced further apart may not match in grain size.

If you're trying for a more varied mix, you can always make a note in the comments or talk to any of our CSRs and they can verify for you that there is enough difference between the grains in the types you want to give you that variety. There are also other options that may suit your particular needs, and they can confirm the characteristics of the bags that you'll receive so there's no confusion.
